Hi, On a recent tour my cruise control intermittently failed to activate and flashing orange light seen. I picked up a replacement oe front brake switch today but I am unsure where the wiring plug attaches. Seems to go behind radiator filler ? Question is does the fuel tank need removing ? Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum, there's numerous reasons why the cruise control would fail to activate and it's usually not the switch.
The most common one I've seen on here is due to a fault code usually caused by doing chain maintenance on a rear stand with the bike running.
I would check with the dealer or buy a diagnostic tool first and make sure there's no fault codes.

Thanks I don't run the bike on the paddock stand. I was being followed and in communication and I was advised my brake light was not always activated. I will fit the switch anyway but don't want to remove the tank of i don't need to.

Did you see if dealer would assist?

Yes they could fit switch at £72 per hour labour. I just wondered if it's something I could manage. I generally change break pads, oil, wheels etc

Did the dealer check for fault codes? I mean switches go on older bikes and of course its possible, but this isn't something that typically fails on a newer bike and the oldest MT10s are what, 4-5 years old. This would certainly be a first since I've been on the board. Any fault code will render cruise control inoperative.
Other thing you could do is crack the switch open and see if anything is out of place since your brake light is being acting up. If I remember right, there's some springs or moving parts in there. Been a while since I did the cruise control mod for the R1 master cylinder.

No the dealer hasn't had the bike in to check. My MT10 is 4 years old now. It was odd because most days or mornings the cruise control would work fine then later in the day would not always activated (heat maybe ? It did get to 38deg air temperature and the bike was hot). Then next day it would work again.

Yes thanks for that it's helpful. I still don't know where the cable connection attached and if tank needs removing though ?

That happened to mine but it was because the rear caliper was partially seized. I bought my 2017 FZ10 as a new leftover in January 2020 so it sat for years. I’d check both end of the brakes.

Yes I will check all possibilities but initially want to fit this front switch. I need to know what bodywork needs removing and in which order.

OK so I fitted the brake switch today. If it happens again I know it's not the front switch so can then look at rear and clutch. But fingers crossed

I went for a long ride the other day and used cruise control plenty. It never failed to activate. I hope it's fixed but as it was intermittent I'm not 100%. Thanks

Hi, recently ordered and replaced my front brake light switch. Can you explain how to open that clamp which holds the brake light switch cable and the other right hand control cable?

Hi I couldn't work it out so I cut through it and then used a cable tie.

Hi all
Don't know whats going on worldwide but just had a recall notice on my 2020 MT10 in the uk.
Recall is for intermittent fault in front brake light switch that will affect cruise control
In uk Yamaha will replace free of charge
Hope that helps

Took my FZ 10 in for the switch recall. They said they’d need the bike for two weeks...um on. Can someone tell me the part number as I’m going to install it myself.
Thanks,
Duffdad.
