I live the FZ/10 I’ve got but I’ve been having some musings lately. My all time favorite bike I’ve owned was my 2002 CBR1100XX Blackbird. So I’ve kind of been thinking of picking up something similar to the Bird. Problem is my only choices are either a ZX14 or a Busa. I got a great deal on my FZ so I could sell it and come out on top or trade it if I needed.
Any of you have experience with either of those? I guess I just like the Hyper-Sporttouring kind of ride. Buuuuuut I could toss the old Bird in the corners and used to make guys on 954’s and old R6’s look slow in the twisters. Granted I’m not 25 anymore lol so I don’t think I’ll be pushing that hard.
One problem I have, if you can call it that is the FZ-10 makes it too easy. That’s the only way I can think to put it. There are a couple of overpasses that are turns (I’m not explaining that well)I can make at 100 near me that don’t feel like I have to work for. I don’t know I’m just thinking out loud I suppose.

Maybe you’re bored with whatever type of riding you’re currently doing?

Could be. Maybe it’s just the way modern bikes are perhaps. Can a thing be “too good”?

Could be. Maybe it’s just the way modern bikes are perhaps. Can a thing be “too good”? I think that’s something only you can answer. Could be the bike or the type of activities you’re motorcycling. For the bike it could be modifying, type, looks, sound, uniqueness, etc that you’re missing. Maybe you want or need some of those. For activities, maybe you’re tired of doing whatever kind of motorcycling you’re doing? Commuting, canyon, track, drag, touring. Maybe friends to do those things with? For myself, I was using motorcycles for commuting, a little bit of canyons, and modding. I did that for YEARS. I was getting bored of it. I eventually figured out that I like to ride canyons, ride canyons with friends, talk to fellow riders about riding and modding, modifying my bike (because I like to tinker), improving my riding technique, and starting to roll into track days. I commute less now (especially during the pandemic), but I hit the canyons 2-4 times a month with friends and some longer rides through various great roads.

One thing you hit on is true. People to ride with because I know exactly zero people where I live now that ride. My work schedule has something to do with that. Being that I work nights I can’t make it to bike nights or meetups so expanding my circle has been impossible.
I’ve modded the 10 about as far as I want to. I’ve done the Puig touring windscreen, 2wdw ecu flash, Yamaha factory radiator guard, Crazy Iron crash cage, bar end mirrors, Michelin Road 5’s and I’ve already changed the oil like three times in 2,400 miles lol so I do like to mod and tinker.
It feels like the bike is missing something or maybe it’s me. I’m older now but still love tossing a bike into a corner or doing the occasional Mexican road blast up to go to jail speeds. Don’t get me wrong the FZ-10 has character and is stupid fun. Now that I think about it it could be where I am. I grew up and have done most of my riding in SW Florida. I’ve been in northern Alabama now for 8 years and it’s a different world as far as the roads.
Maybe I’m just having a bit of an existential crisis of sorts.

I’ve had the same thoughts but about the H2 SX. I just think I’d miss the handling characteristics of the MT very quickly.
But the thought of 250 HP to the rear wheel (with Brock’s exhaust and tune) on a bike that is comfortable, yet still somewhat sport oriented, is a great sounding proposition to me.

If the H2 SX wasn’t a million dollars I’d be all over that one.

I owned both of those bikes, and no way I'd trade my FZ-10 for either one. In fact, I was happy to get rid of both, to be honest; they were a disappointment. But guess it depends what you want from a bike. The FZ might be slower, but much more fun to ride for me, plus I don't need ludicrous speed. I did 185 on the Busa once, and it was stupid fast. Even with miles of visibility in every direction, just a wrong twitch due to a rabbit or something, and you'd be off road. Both bikes had too aggressive riding positions for me, but felt like boats (both are heavy, and with long wheelbases). And vibrations were bad on both, even though the Blackbird had dual counterbalancing shafts (the Busa just one). I'm 2 decades older now, and no vibration issues with the FZ. I'd rent one first, to make sure they're what you think they are . Good luck.

Do a track day or two. I know that after not being on the track for a while, I have the itch to do so.
Another thing, get another bike. Before Harvey flooded everything I had, I rode an R1 and and SV650. SV650 made me work for it without breaking tripple digits. R1 was too easy. Now with FZ10, I am looking for another SV or maybe FZ07 (with wife's permission of course).

ZX14’s and Busa’s are shit bikes. They’re an old mans bike and have no place anywhere except a drag strip or at a bike night where said old man can be seen refusing to let go and still trying to fit in with the younger crowd. They’re simply rolling couches. Sure they’re stupid fast but doing 180 down your local hwy isn’t cool anymore or really never was. I can’t even believe they still sell those bikes. I bet they sell 1 for every 20 1k or 600 they sell.
Just my opinion lol. Buy whatever you want
