Hi all, I finally just became the proud owner of a brand new 2020 MT-10! I've already started to do some shopping to make some minor improvements, and one area I'd certainly like to change is the OEM seat. I know from doing a little research on this website that some people don't have a problem with the stock seat, but for me I find it quite uncomfortable and am very interested in swapping it out for a comfort seat. After looking around it seems most people either have the Yamaha brand comfort seat or the seat concepts comfort seat, and I was hoping I could get some advice and info on the pros and cons of each. There's the obvious price difference that makes the seat concepts foam & cover kit more attractive, but I intend to do some decent touring on this bike so I'm willing to break the bank as long as I get the best option available.
So, what do you guys think? Which one is better? Thanks!

I’m a person who thinks the stock seat isn’t bad. I’m 6’2” and 230 lbs. I can do a day of canyon riding on the stock seat. When it comes to long distance riding, I have serious discomfort at the end of the day.
I only have the Yamaha comfort seat. I bought it because I don’t have to mess with installing the kit and I wouldn’t have downtime if I mailed in the stock seat. It works for canyon riding and I think it’s more comfortable. I haven’t done any long distance riding to know if it’s better.

I purchased the Comfort seat about 4k miles ago after putting 9k miles on the stock seat. The comfort seat at first glance appears to be much softer than the stock one as it has thicker foam padding. However, when sitting on it with your weight dispersed over a larger area, the difference in comfort from the additional padding is negligible (still feels a bit hard); I still experience discomfort after 4 hours of continuous riding. For me, that is the same as the stock. .
The only thing that made it worth buying in my personal experience was the increased seat height due to knee pain I was experiencing from extended mountain riding. There's a lot of conflicting opinions and preferences posted, this is simply mine.

I just picked up a used comfort seat. They have a lot of vertical travel in the front and tend to wear in the corners. This is a known problem and there is a thread by RedAndBlack that uses the original seat rubber stoppers on the front of the comfort seat. It helps IMMENSELY. That being said. I think the comfort seat is miles ahead in comfort for both rider and passenger than the original. I did a 320 mile ride the other day without a numb spot or pain at all. I will note: the material on the comfort seat has more grip to it and i found it a little harder to scoot my ass from side to side as my jeans would catch on the seat. I just began lifting my ass a little more and got used to it quick. The lady loves it too. Much more surface area and cushion for us both!

I actually am one of the few that purchased the Seat Concepts and I think it was definitely worth it. I've never been on the comfort seat so I can't compare the two but the Seat Concepts is much better than stock. The new one doesn't have particularly softer foam but there is a major contour that is more of a bucket seat. Prior to ditching the stock I constantly found myself sliding up on the tank but the new one has improved that greatly. Between the reshaping and the added grip from the texture that's pretty rough to make sure you don't slide anywhere its so much better.
As to why I didn't go comfort seat: I thought the price was a little steep. I had the skill to install the new seat (patience and a staple gun) And personally I think the Seat Concept looks slightly better.
I can add pictures later if you want them!

I’ve recovered an SV650 seat before. How difficult was that seat concepts kit to install and get right?

I’ve recovered an SV650 seat before. How difficult was that seat concepts kit to install and get right? It really was pretty easy. I tried the comfort seat and did not like it much. I personally felt it made you lean forward and put extra weight on my wrists. May not feel that way for some, but it did for me. I then sold that seat and used the money for the seat concepts as it looked like it sits you more flat and the seat is dished more (sitting in the bike) not “on” it. It wasn’t bad at all really. As mentioned before a staple gun and patience and it went together no problem. Also need 3M spray adhesive to install. Other than that, I really enjoy the seat and it does look a little more sporty than the comfort seat IMO.
