Any news on this? Also,I am holding back on buying the mt10 due to everyone saying the mpg is bad. About how many total miles will i get from a full tank? Im holding out till 2021 to see if anything might have changed but am seriously debating buying one. IM also looking into the MT-09. Any suggestions on why I should get one or the other?

After my 2wdw ecu flash I’m getting 31.4mpg average and that’s with the 150whp tune. The tank is small though so I’m filling up roughly every 100miles. It’s a myth really about the MT-10 getting low mpg numbers it’s just got a small fuel tank.
The MT-10 has features the MT-09 doesn’t like cruise control, I know you’ll say why would I want that, I know because I said it myself but it’s great to have on my commutes to work on the interstate. The MT-10 also has fully adjustable suspension which I’m not sure if the 09 does or not.
I think the 10 looks better, bigger and badder imo too. All the lights including the headlights are LEDs also I like the dash on the 10 more. I snagged a leftover 2017 FZ-10 this past January for under $10k so it was a no brainer for me.
I’d highly recommend the ecu flash from 2 wheel dyno works if you do decide to get one it makes the throttle waaaay smoother on/off throttle and the extra 20whp over stock is nice as well. I did that get the Puig touring windscreen and it’s a great all around bike now for me now. I’m thinking hard about the comfort seat still but the stock one is fine.
Hope this helps and keep us posted on what you decide.

150+ RWHP 1000cc sports bike derived R1 engine with a ton of torque.
Find me a bike like it that returns a better average.
On a long open road sat comfortable at 75mph with cruise control on the bike has a near 200mile range at 50+ mpg (UK)
Using the bike as a commuter and weekend blast sees that drop to 35mpg (UK) AVG.
The limiting factor is actually the tank size as mentioned above. At 4.5 US Gallons it's not that big so progressive riding will see you usually to a 120 miles before you're searching for a fuel stop.

I am in New Mexico USA with an elevation of 5300 ft. On my FZ10 with a Hindle exhaust and ECU reflash the FZ10 got 39.97 mpg running 75 mph on a 331 mile round trip. By the way I did not go off of the FZ 10 computer average 41.14 mpg. I used the good old calculator.

I'm also in the market for a new bike and looking at the 2021 MT10. I had a 2016 FZ07 and currently have a 2017 FZ09. I was going to get a MT10 last year if the 2020 version was refreshed but stayed with the FZ09 since it wasn't. If the 2021 MT10 is refreshed (such as a TFT display, etc...) I will get one. If not, I might just keep my FZ09 another year (bought brand new and currently have 22k miles on it) or get a new Z900. The added power of the MT10 is nice but I can't justify selling my FZ09 just for that, I want better tech as well like the Z900

I think that the engine will be updated like the R1 one to comply to Euro5. It should give more autonomy ... It did on MT09 in 2017, the gain was about 8-10% with same fuel tank of course.
This is the only problem for me (autonomy) even if on highway with speedcruiser there is no trouble. ( about 5.6L/100 at 140 km/h, whereas in everyday run it's about to 7L for me)

Are you saying improved fuel mileage? I’m sorry I’m just not following your wording.

I had the fjo9 and I don't know if it's just me personally but I'm much much enjoy the inline 4-cylinder better than that 3 cylinderI also have a 2001 FZ1 which I guess is the 18-year old version of my new bike and on a good day nursing it I can eat out almost 50 miles to the gallon actually made it from Vegas to San Diego on one tank the mt10 cannot do that ever but it's worth it the fun factor is just too good

If it's not MT 10 the only other option is the Aprilia tuono 1100 factory in my opinion it still ranks out as the top naked bike from all of the reviews and I have heard very little as far as unreliability goes parts and service are a nightmare but I think it's worth it

Tank range is irrelevant for me because even though i always get between 39mpg-42 uk,no matter what bike i'm on i want to get off after 80 miles and have a walkabout for 5 mins,so no bikes tank range bothers me,the only thing i don't like on the bike is the terrible headlights apart from the one light only being on and the size of a matchbox the shape means it only goes 20yds forwards BUT up the hedge on both sides of you,i hope the new one has bigger lights and i can fit them on my bike.

Iv'e just bought a 2020 one [my 2nd mt10] and apart from the lights,i am glad it has NOT changed, did not buy the sp because the clocks might be colour but they are much smaller and i do not want the tech that's on it now let alone anymore,NEVER used the cruise control on either bike and soon as i start it up off goes the traction control,i had a zzr1400 with 40bhp more than this and it didn't have anything so i wished there was the option on new bikes to have nothing it's as if everybody has forgotten how to ride a bike, traction control, steering damper, cruise don't want it,my zx10 had nothing and that was real fun [kept you feeling young]with the bars flapping at 140mph and wanting to wheelie over the slightest bump, this is what i want from my mt10 not dumbed down. With the traction control off it's like my 04 zx10 and i love it.

as others have said, its the size of the tank rather than the gas mileage. my 02 fz1 could go further because it had a 5 gallon tank on it. other then that, the MT10 is fine on gas for the most part depending on your riding style.

It’s not the size of the tank it IS the mileage. Yes it’s got a small tank but the consensus is it averages in the low 30’s. Even with a bigger tank the mpgs would still suck. Just about every other litre bike out there easily gets in the 40’s. My friends RC8 averages 45. My RSV4 averages in the 40’s. A guy in a group I ride with has a Panigale V4 that gets in the 40’s. I had a 2017 HD Street Glide that got better mileage than my MT. The R1 it’s based on even gets better mileage. It’s got the worst gas mileage of any bike I’ve ever ridden or owned.
OP by 100 miles you need to be looking for a gas station quick.

By 90 miles the motorcycle will be begging you for fuel with that blinking stressful icon. The MT-10 has a terrible mpg as far as bikes go but the overall package more than makes up for it.
I get about 28-32 at 4000ft elevation, could probably get high 30s with stock flash and riding like a grandma but then I'd be left questioning my life choices.

The only reason the R1 gets better mileage is because of aerodynamics. The FZ/MT-10 is a brick in the wind. I honestly think the tank size was a huge Miss by Yamaha on this bike. It should have at LEAST a 5 gallon tank if not a 5.5 gallon one.

The other problem with the MT-10 is that reserve is basically a freaking 1/4 of the tank. So you have to get comfortable running the reserve low; otherwise, you'd have to find a gas station within 100 miles. I also live at altitude (about 4K'), and can get around 40 mpg not too aggressive, but not babying the bike either. In the TX Hill Country, where gas stations are scarce, I routinely got there with less than half the reserve, so not a nice feeling, since there's no cell reception there. But I knew our routes well, so just had to keep the same pace. And yes, I overfill the tank slightly in those instances to have that extra little range in case I end up needing it .

If it's all about gas mileage get a scooter. I'm only half joking. You don't buy a naked supersport for the mileage - you buy it for the performance.

The issue with this bike is RANGE. I don't see anybody here b*tching about fuel mileage, so calm down . I couldn't care less if it gave 10 MPG, but had better range. But with only 4.5 gal, a decent mileage is all you can play with. I literally couldn't afford even 1 less mile of range, so barely enough for my needs. And yes, that means I have to be relatively easy on the throttle to get to the next gas station, but that keeps me safe, so not that bad .

Traditional supersport bikes do better due to gearing/ higher rev limit and most riders not riding them like they were intended to be ridden. I feel like the rider is more the brick in the wind than the bike is on the MT10, put a windscreen on and it definitely helps, i noticed it instantly when putting the windscreen on mine. i will say that they definitely dropped the ball on the tank size though but they would have had to make up for it elsewhere to keep the weight reasonable. I cant speak for other states but in california, the bike does well enough on gas to make most any trip fun.
