Hello all and thanks in advance! Seen the thread in regards to the 2WDW promotion going on now, so I'm finally going to decat & flash. Pipe should be here by weeks end but may be a few days until I can remove and send off ecu for flashing. So my question is...any harm in taking a few spins to check out the pipe without having the new tune in place? I should have timed this out better but being off work due to COVID shutdown and just starting to get awesome riding weather I haven't wanted to disable my bike even if for a short period. As always, your knowledge is greatly appreciated!

You'll be fine, I rode mine a few times that way too. To stop a check engine light from coming on, leave the EXUP motor plugged in under the seat if your exhaust doesn't use it.

I would NOT ride decatted even 1 mile without a tune, but it's your bike. Engine is already borderline lean as it is. Removing the cat reportedly pushes it over the edge (even with everything else stock), and you risk scoring your cylinders, due to pistons expanding more rapidly than the cylinders. If you want to ride, just ride the bike stock, and make all the changes at once when you have everything. But up to you if you want to take that risk. Good luck.

I did the break-in stock, put an AR belly exit on and rode for about 70 miles with no flash. I'll be more than happy to post pics of the pistons and cylinder walls if I ever take it apart, but that might be quite a while. I only have 1800 miles on it now, but my bike hasn't blown up or sounded different, pretty much runs the same or better than before the flash.
Since a piston is like a tenth of the mass of a cylinder bank,(and the flame is directly contacting it) I would expect it to heat up at a different rate regardless of how lean or rich the motor runs. I wish one of the guys at 2WDW would chime in as to how much more fuel is needed to adjust for aftermarket exhausts.

You'll be fine. So will the bike. I did it for about 1,000 miles. Keep the o2's in.

On the two fz10s i had I just removed the slipon, fixed the exup valve ope and rode like that untill I could flash it and instsll a decat. With a little autozone 45* slash cut exhaust tip this bike sounds like a v8 musclecar, still sincerely my favorite ever exhaust sound setup. Just too bad it includes the catbox =/

ok I have a question arnt the locations of the o2 sensors location precat and if so adjusting the afr so what does it hurt to remove the cat if that's the case ecu is set up from the factory which in this case must be lean mixture to meet emmissions the exup valve is in the system to keep the cat at working operating temp during low rpms heating up cat so to me ecu will be trying to maintain air target regardless if the catalyst is on the bike or isn't

I just pulled my stock exhaust this weekend with only 36 miles on it. Went with the Hindle 3/4. I also bought the servo buddy to plug in and replace the EXUP servo motor. I put the O2 sensors in their proper location on the link pipe and I've put ~20 mile son it since the install and it's mint. I'm planning on getting a flash at some point, probably this winter. Also planning on getting the Hindle quiet insert ASAP as it's very loud inside my helmet. But damn does it sound good.

I just put Austin Racing exhaust on today, I was not able to plug the O2 sensors back in because they did not fit (holes on the Austin Racing mid pipe are too big) so I just plugged the holes and kept the EXUP motor plugged in like suggested above but I of course my engine light came on. I live at around 8,000 feet elevation and the bike is def running lean but I want to take it out for a quick ride before I sent out my ECU for a flash and was wondering if it would do any damage to the motor?
