I have now had two days of commuting on my 2017 FZ10 and I love it. The problem I have is that I can't see anything behind me with the stock mirrors. I am looking at mirror extenders but need to know if they work. Thanks for your input.

The ones that actually extend the mirror work great! Not sure about the ones that raise the base.

That’s why I like bar end mirrors. IMO the viewing angle is much better than most stock mirrors, and nothing/no body parts blocking the mirror. And I think they look a lot better.
But buy once cry once, I’m sure there are other good brands but CRG’s are great. Rock solid, no moving and no vibrations. You can probably get knock-offs that look like them for a lot cheaper, but they will probably vibrate while riding and move out of position after a riding a while.

I agree 1000% with above...👍
The mt is the first bike I have added barend mirrors and I ask myself all the time why did I not figure this out before. 20+ years of not being able to see what's behind me was boneheaded on my part to say the least..
Of course no lane splitting here so that's not an issue.

I like the mirror extenders. They work great.
I wasn’t a fan of the bar end mirrors. I had the CRG Arrow. They would get in the way of my grip, I would have to look down and outward to see, and everything was fairly small. They did look great, though. Significantly better looking than the stock setup.

The Arrows are the best looking bar end mirror that I have seen. And having it tucked under the handlebar is the best look on a bike IMO. However (and not sure how yours were positioned), I could see where that position could interfere with someone’s hands, especially if you had large hands. And positioned like that would also take away some of nice viewing angle, one of the main reasons I prefer them. I have the Blindsight (smallest they make I believe, 2”) on my bike, and had them on a previous bike. Technically not supposed to be a stand alone mirror, but it works exactly how I want it too. Not too big/long, since mine stick outward from the handlebars (don’t live in CA and don’t lane split, but doubt they would be an issue during lanesplitting). But it allows me to know what is going on behind me and see what traffic is doing back there (and I always head check before changing lanes). Even though it is small, because of the position, 100% of the glass is being used/visible. An I am able to see in them by shifting my eyes, don’t have to turn/re-position my head.

Thanks for all the replies. I will try the extenders as I occasionally ride in NYC and the bar ends would be gone fairly quickly.

I think it’s around $10 once you factor in shipping. If you don’t like it, not much loss. The other issue with the arrows is that they make your handlebar setup wider. They can rotate, but it was an odd view. I wasn’t a fan of that since I live in CA and lane split.

Just one suggestion before going the mirror extender route, which at least for me, it worked. The only parts that dealers have to install on our bikes (besides hooking up the battery terminals) are the mirrors. And at least on my bike, they didn't do it right. The mirror bases have to be perfectly perpendicular to the bike, meaning the line formed by front and rear wheel contact patches. On my bike, they were at about a 45-deg angle, meaning the mirrors were sticking out quite a bit less than when perpendicular. I used a long (3') measuring stick resting on both mirror bases, to make them perpendicular to the bike. That made the difference I needed. You might want to give it a try before spending on extenders .

The second style is what I have. Work great for me, put a set on the wifes mt09 also.

I transferred SW Motech mirror extenders from my previous FJ-09 & they fit perfectly. Twisted Throttle was my source.

Ok I did it. I went the bar end mirror route. What I got was the Speedmetal (also a genre of music I like lol) bar end mirrors from Revzilla and I’m actually blown away by the initial quality! The mirrors were $64 shipped to me because I had $15 in “zilla cash” but even at $80 shipped for the par I’d still be impressed. The machined aluminum stalks and mirror bodies look great and they clamp securely to the factory bar end weights. There are three plastic little inserts that come with them and the very thinnest one is the one you need to use. The only thing I’m not 100% stoked on is the blue tint to the glass but honestly it’s not bad just took a little getting used to. In bright sun I actually prefer it You’ll need to get some plugs for the factory mirror locations to clean up the look. I got some on eBay for $5 for the pair. I wanted the Rizoma reverse retro mirrors but $200+ for the pair of mirrors plus possibly needing new bar ends to mount them, I just couldn’t justify. I went the extender route first and it just made the bike look off to me plus my cover didn’t fit right since the mirrors were so tall. Here’s a link to what I got. www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/speedmetal-reversible-single-bar-end-mirror
