Just done valve clearance inspection at 33000 km, on exhaust side was 0,13. 0,18. 0,10. 0,10. 0,09. 0,13. 0,12. 0,08mm it lower than I expected, on intake all valves was 0,12-0,13 which is realy good. Service manual says Ex. 0,20-0,26mm and
In. 0,09-0,17mm. I would recommend to do valve clearance check at least around 20000 km and not wait specified service at 40000 km.

Any tips or tricks regarding getting to the valves? I've stripped the bike down to do spark plugs but haven't gone further than that. There's always these little tips and tricks you find out later that you wish you knew at the time.

Unfortunately that’s a job I don’t feel comfortable doing. Any idea what the deal SHOULD charge to have the valves checked and adjusted if needed? I’ve only got a little over 2,000 miles on the bike and the owners manual says to have them inspected at 26,000. I’ll probably have it done at between 18k and 20k miles.

I wouldn't bother at 2k miles. If the bike was 10 years old maybe.

Oh no I said I was going to have them checked at 18-20k instead of the recommenced 26,000 and that the bike only has 2k on it so it’s still a ways off.

Because there are more than a few people reporting really tight exhaust valves well before the recommended vale check mileage.

Just done mine.
All exhaust clearances tight. Min spec 0.2mm and mine were 0.1mm so way out.
Oh and that cam chain tensioner, what a 🤬🤬🤬 to get back in. It really was the hardest part of the job.
And make sure you've got glue to hold the new cam cover gasket on. That's a 🤬 job if you can't hold it on place putting the cover back on.
Notice lots of 🤬. It's that kind of job 😂

So the valve cover gasket is not the O-ring type that stays in place? What method do you suggest to use when doing the job alone? Something like RTV? Thx.

Gasket like a T type and stuck in a groove of head cover, to fit firmly I was using silicone but honestly next time I'm gonna use liquid gasket to hold it in place. Cheers

I ended up reusing the old seal. Gasket glue or silicon would work but use very sparingly.
Grease would also work and is what I am used on the parts I had peeled off.
