So, my bike tops out at 160. Since this was a replacement for my old R1, it needs to move better. So, what is the general consensus on go faster goodies? How do I unlock the potential on this bike? I think it may not be geared to go much faster. Also, it may have been limited. So what do I do?

Are you looking for more acceleration or top speed? My 1st choice would be gearing changes with a 520 chain.

This bike isn't designed for high speed wind protection or aerodynamics so that's kind of a lost cause.

OP, 160 is the top speed of our bike due to both gearing (redline limited), and aerodynamics. It's an aerodynamic brick, compared to a hypersport bike like an R1. It'd need an inordinate amount of HP to overcome that. So like others already implied, it seems to be the wrong bike for you. Good luck.

There are power and speed restrictions programmed into the ecu. Send it to 2 wheel dyno works to fix that and change the rear sprocket. The R1 rear is two teeth smaller than the FZ/MT-10’s so that’ll limit top speed some as well. After that I’ll agree with the above post about aero. This bike isn’t slippery at all but then it wasn’t designed to be either. I put a Puig touring windscreen on mine because I do a lot of highway riding and it’s great. Don’t think I’d recommend it for the track though. There are shorter screens out there that may help some. Hope this helps.

The R1 he’s talking about was a 2002 model. I’d love to hear the data on that—I’d imagine the new MT is faster than a nearly 20 year-old R1....

Of course that would only be relative if the R1 was in good working condition.

Did a little research along with ya—that’s crank HP and looks like only about 20lb lighter. If we’re talking a straight line it wouldn’t crush an MT-10 but throw some curves in there (what really matters) and I’d imagine it’s closer.

I like the yamaha windshield. That alone gave me more aerodynamics to hit higher speeds on average. I have a 520 chain, not much difference in my opinion there. I may try playing with the sprocket but i dont want to lose any torque as thats where the fun is.

It’ll scare the shit out of you the first time you hammer on it lol. So much “right now” torque I’m considering going DOWN two teeth on the rear sprocket actually. ETA: The biggest improvement is to the throttle response. I opted for less engine braking on my tune and now it engine brakes like a well tuned carb bike. Soooooo much smoother on and off throttle it’s worth the pice for that alone.

Who would buy a $13000 motorcycle and then turn around and say it's too slow and needs to move better? Even a used one. Seriously, who would do this? You want a bike with bleeding edge performance but then not bother to find out what the capabilities are of the bike you're going to buy? If you wanted a bike to perform like an R1 then why didn't you buy an R1. And of course let's not forget that most of us spend the majority of our time riding at 160 and faster. Right.

Please don't feed the fools. That kit is only $3,500 less than I paid for my FZ-10 brand new! I just don’t know who that kit would be for.

Thanks for some good replies. The old R1 (yes 2002 in excellent shape) really accelerated better and had a better top speed. I would have kept it but it was flooded and not worth repairing. I replaced it with the FZ10 and I do like this bike - good performance, good value, and looks really great, oh....and the sound of the crossplane engine . New R1s just don't fit me very well and are not comfortable so were not an option. ECU flash would be something I'd consider and when it's time for new chain definitely drop a tooth or 2 on the rear sprocket. This bike is a brick with me on it, so not much can be done there.
