Just out of curiosity, since the bike has been around for a few years, are there any owners here with high mileage on their bikes that can comment on longevity or maintenance in general and any problems they've run into?
By high mileage I mean 30k+ miles. I'll also add a poll to see what the average mileage is.

I’m going to skew your data. I just bought a brand new leftover 2017 FZ-10 on July 10th 2020. I didn’t realize it until two weeks ago and about 600 miles later but the rear caliper was frozen on ever so slightly. Melted the rear pads and nuked the rotor. This is only because the bike sat for more than 3 years on the showroom floor. My dealer is fixing it and it’s of course all covered under warranty.
I also have the “normal” Yamaha tic. Nate at 2WDW my service manager and tech at my dealer all day it’s normal but it bugs me. This is my first Yamaha so I’ll just have to get used to it.
I’m looking forward to seeing the replies from the ironbutt FZ/MT-10 guys here too.

The tic is completely normal but I agree it's annoying. All 3 mt10s I've ridden including mine have it and they all make great power and haven't had any issues. They seem pretty bulletproof so hopefully someone with high mileage chimes in!

Could one of you with the 'tic' make a recording? Motorcycle engines are noisy by nature, but I don't hear anything abnormal on mine, other than the typical valvetrain noise, due to not having hydraulic lash adjusters. And I'm using 5/40 oil. Curious to hear if yours are any different than mine . I've owned dozens of motorcycles over the years, and of all brands, and most inline-4s, so I'm quite familiar with typical motorcycle engine noises . Quietest were a Goldwing 1800 and a Valkyrie I had, both H6 engines, with automotive hydraulic valve lash adjusters (only 2 valves/cyl, and SOHC), AND cam belts, instead of chains. Noisiest were BMWs.

24k on mine, had it just over a year. Apparently i need to rebuild my clutch according to the dealer. Or atleast its coming up. I ride pretty hard though so that may have something to do with it. Valve adjustment coming up at 26.5k too. Fun fun. Overall i love the bike but i need to learn this engine so i can do these mechanical things myself and save money.

Time travel, I like it. Would you happen to recall the winning lottery numbers the day you picked it up?

Purchased in May 2018, currently have just shy of 15k, likely would be more if not for the motor grenading at around 6k, see other thread in regards to that. Since then motor is running good, no issues so far.

It has me pretty worried that these crossplanes are grenading but I'm glad the new rebuild has been good to you so far. One of the guys I ride with had an 08 Honda CBR1000RR that went through two engines because of their oil burning issues and he's been trying to convince me to sell my MT for the same reason. If engine failure stories with picture evidence are popping up online that's a bad sign.

Since then motor is running good, no issues so far. Read your other thread. Sucks that the Illinois lemon law doesn’t cover motorcycles. 4 months old, 5 months in the shop would have been a solid lemon claim/case. Most states allow for attorney fees to be paid by the Mfr, along with the option for a replacement or buyback, in a successful claim. Although you might have been able to pursue a claim based on the Magnus Moss warranty act. It is a bit more vague on the timeframes though (wording is a “reasonable repair time” where most lemon laws allow for 30 days in the shop in the first year). My KTM was in the shop for 41 days for a rear shock repair (electronically adjustable and pre-load) after about 1 month of ownership. After the initial repair it looked like they may have had to send it back to KTM and extend the repair even longer. But was resolved with a software update. Had they wanted to take more time, I was prepared to contact an attorney and start a lemon law claim. But they got it fixed and back to me, had no further issues and loved the bike.

Only a handful of engine failures in all this time, so I'd say this engine has a pretty good track record . And we don't know the specifics of most of those failures, so not sure if they were all Yamaha's fault, to begin with.

I have a 2017 fz10 with 30,347 miles with absolutely no problems so far knock on wood knock knock knock. It's a great bike. I've owned quite a few bikes and the fz 10 is by far my favorite yet.

You’ll have a handful of bad ones from any manufacturer in any type of vehicle. If there was a major issue with the CP4 in either the FZ/MT or R1 we’d definitely hear about more failures. It sucks that it’s happened at all to anyone though. I had that frozen caliper issue on mine (fixed now under warranty in two weeks) and that drove me nuts. I could only imagine how pissed I would be about a blown engine and months without my bike.

Great news. Hey, since you're one of the few that is past valve adjustment time, could you please tell us what was your experience with that? Done at how many miles? How many out of adjustment, and how much? Etc. Just curious, since one other forum member reported valves being out of whack well before the 26K-mile interval. Thank you.

About 26K on my 17' black, took it to a mom and pop shop for a valve job cause I dropped a shim into the oil gulley and now the fairing fitment is all weird. Will take it to a local Yamaha OEM shop for the next shop. Wasn't worth saving $200-$300 at all. Got a quote from Pasadena Yamaha here (only Yamaha shop I could find on Google) for $750 (includes gasket, shims and sparkplugs. Not a bad deal?). Will definitely take it there next. 23K more miles to go I guess . Engine does start better and run stronger after the first valve job though.

About 12k miles on my 2018. Have done tons of street miles and wrung its neck at several trackdays and haven't had any problems.
If course I probably just jinxed myself lol...
