I'm going to be changing the spring on the OEM shock, and looking in the service manual the procedure for removing the shock includes tank and all that plastic trim plus rear wheel removal, got to be an easier way ...... Had a search on this site and can't find any info so any tips would be great.
Thanks.

Rear wheel removal isn't a must do but it will make the job easier. I didn't have the cat on mine when I swapped out my shock, catless makes the job easier as well. Best advice is make sure the bike is stable with the rear wheel off the ground. I used a bright steel rod through the swingarm bolt on top of some car axle stands and tied the front down to my work stand to stablise it.

Thanks for that .....Never thought of the cat, that makes sense why the manual states tank removal so you can lift and pivot the shock ..... Mines de-cated so its just a case of removing the linkage and top bolt and you can Manoeuvre the shock out. I have an abba superbike stand so there is no tension on the shock

With an abba superbike stand it was so simple even I could do it!
On my bike there was virtually no grease anywhere and corrosion on the bolts and linkages.
You may want to give everything a good clean and lube before reassemble.
I have the cat, didn't need to remove the tank.

I didn't mention it but I never removed my tank either, no need.

Watched the video thanks, also found this one :
Not as informative as the R1 video as he turns the camera off to assist the mechanic at the most crucial bit. In this one no wheel removal ...... In the R1 video he removes the rear wheel.

I think it would be easier with the rear wheel removed as my shock didn't want to come out so was constantly raising and dropping the swing arm. This would have been a PITA with the wheel in.
No problem at all removing the wheel with your abba stand.
Those BJ blog videos are series of about 10,maybe more, and are very informative if you haven't watched.

So which is the easiest way to do it with a fully stock bike, and an Abba stand? By that I mean which components to remove. Thx.

Two videos right above, especially the first one, which shows every part you need to remove, and exactly how to move the swingarm to get the shock out, and he still can't figure it out.

Sorry for the late reply, i did't remove the tank or rear wheel as per the workshop manual, with the Abba stand and a pry bar to pivot the swinging arm to gain enough room to remove the shock, only real problem i had was removing the bottom shock spacer ended up applying some heat to ease it out.
