I picked up new 2019 MT 10 last weekend but it was so cold that I could only take a short ride of around 15 miles on the new bike. Today I got out and burned through a tank of gas and got the tires scrubbed in. I'm amazed at how good it is. That motor....0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds is accurate. It went from 80 to 125 in a blink and I was riding in the second mode, not the hyper mode as we've had snow here and there's already sand on the roads and new tires. It turns and is fast. Never had a quick shifter and that's a blast. It's a breath taking motorcycle. The only negatives, gas mileage sucks and the suspension is not as good as my 2017 FJ09 was with K-Tech on both ends. The 10 turns better than the 09 but rides a lot rougher and way less confidence inspiring then the 09. It's hard to steer when you're bouncing around. The 09 handling as it ate up rough roads. When you came off a highway onto an exit ramp that was torn up, you didn't worry about where the bike was going to go. It went exactly where you put it. I'll install a K-Tech rear shock within the next week or so and and have my suspension guy do springs in the front and set it up. I may do cartridges in the front but I'm going to see how it is with the correct springs for my weight and the shock before I decide. I can't wait to ride this thing with the suspension done.
I spent this morning adding heated grips, mirror extenders and a Puig windscreen before I went out and rode it. The grips are from Yamaha but are pretty much a universal part unlike the integrated one I had on my FJ09. I liked that they have the controller built in rather than a separate unit on the handlebar. They don't get burn your hand hot but were more than enough for today (45 degrees F). Way easy to install also.
The Puig windscreen looks like the bike came with it. Another simple install and works well at all speeds and 35 mph wind gusts today. It's my 3rd Puig screen and they're always excellent quality and performance. Price is pretty good too.
I used these mirror extenders on my FJ09 and they worked great. They extend the mirror so I can see past my shoulders.
Is there a car on the road that can actually outrun one of these?
My Airedale - Honey is very interested in motorcycles.

Congrats on the new bike.
I’m a little confused by all the comparisons to the FJ I see on here all the time. Comparing a hyper naked to a sport tourer is apples and oranges. Of course the FJ is going to be a smoother ride, aftermarket suspension or not. The MT is not a bike meant for “touring” no matter what you do to it. It’s more of a street fighter than anything and is truly at home on the track. I’m seeing more and more on here guys wishing they would have gotten a Tracer instead of the MT. Just a little odd to me that’s all
Anyways nice bike. I Picked up my 2019 last month and love it.

It was not a smoother ride until I did suspension. It's a sport bike that they put a slightly larger tank on, larger pillion seat and offered matching saddle bags and added touring to the name. Except for that, they're identical in every way to the FZ 09 which is the naked sport version. I've ridden both an FZ 09 and FJ 09 for over 500 miles in a day and there's virtually no difference in either bike except how far you can go on a tank of gas. My point is that this bike as well as those need an aftermarket rear shock which allows the natural great handling to shine. My regular rides are pretty rough farm back roads with lots of frost heaves and twisties. The FJ 09 with aftermarket suspension is easier to ride fast than this. The MT10 needs it too unless you only want to go fast in a straight line. It'll also probably will be 2 - 3 seconds a lap faster on the track and still be all day comfortable on the street. Are you still confused ?

I too came from an FJ & agree mostly with your assessment of both. As I'm an old rider, suspension is key for riding to me. Went with Traxxion Dynamics for their AK-20 fork kit & Penske on rear. Remarkable difference in ride quality.

since I disagree with your assessment, I guess I still am. No worries though. Enjoy the bike. Make it your own.

Jacoby is correct that an FJ09 vs MT10 is like apples and oranges indeed; no argument there. But as long as you can make it your own, that's what matters . Welcome to the family.
