I just picked up my new 2019 mt 10 and after a short ride I'm already feeling like it might need a suspension upgrade. I traded a 2017 FJ 09 with K-Tech on both ends and it was a great riding and handling motorcycle. The stock 09's have cheap suspension to hit a price point but I'm not quite sure how the 10 is. It looks like it should be decent. I know the bike is under sprung for my weight and I'm going to address that but I have more questions. I'm not looking for a track bike and I guess I'm a good enough rider to be able to tell when the suspension is good but i'm not delusional about my riding skills either. I put on about 7000 miles a year. I'm looking for something to make the bike comfortable and not be harsh and jarring and handle well. I'm not looking for instructions on how to set the sag etc. My questions are: 1. What is a realistic assessment of the stock suspension. Assuming it's properly sprung, can it work? 2. Does anyone have experience with Nitron and how are they compared to K-Tech? 3. I'm have to do front springs, but are the forks decent or do they need cartridges? 4. Does anyone respring and modify the rear shock?
Thanks

Thanks 1. The front has decent adjustment in the damping department. The rear doesn’t have enough rebound. 2. 3. The forks are okay. I weigh 230 lbs. I’m running a 1.0 and 1.1 spring in the front. I have rebound almost all the way in. Compression is all the way out. I’d like to revalve it. 4. I swapped to an R1 shock for length adjustment, got GP suspension to give me more rebound, and I put on a 575 spring. GP made adapters to fit a 2.25” ID spring on it.

Does Nitron make a shock specifically for the MT10, or do you need to get one for the R1 and make it fit? I did not see one on their US website.
I have a Nitron shock on my Versys 1000 and have been very pleased with it.

I have a Nitron shock on my Versys 1000 and have been very pleased with it. I found the variations for our bike by clicking the shock model and then using the drop down menu for selecting the bike. I saw on the Facebook group, Hypernaked Thunderdome, that they’re doing a group buy through Fast Bike Industries. Last I checked it was at a 15% discount. If more people get in, it can go up to 25%.

It did get up to the 25%, i ended getting the Nitron NTR3. Probably overkill, but i am a fairly aggressive rider. Have yet to install it. once i get the shock installed, the next thing will probably be upgraded springs on the front forks. but that probably will have to wait when they start leaking or when im due for maintenance on them.
