How did it work out with the sound? Happy with it? Hi R&D I think Im as happy as can be Sound wise with that can has a deeper tone than the stock on the same link pipe and noise level wise is still a little loud at under 5k rpm . The stock can is much quieter than this can with the link pipe but I like the tone of the round carbon better The top end has no drone and seems to be not as loud as I thought it might be. When hard on the gas it barks quite nice and comes back to quite a nice volume above wind noise when cruising The Exup knocks a little noise off at low rpm but my power band now is much more linear and the bike has more pull from 5-7k I assume it was this way when stock but cant compare as I pretty much changed the can when I got the bike. I did have a slight hole at 4-5k with just the can but that's gone now with the link pipe fitted Ill have to put it on a dyno when the funds allow Ive also noticed that when I rode it back from the fabricator without the exup connected it popped quite alot but fitting the cables made that less of an issue and very much livable . I am not getting hard bangs just gurgle and occasional slight pop I find that it will pop more when the exhaust gets heated and Im playing with the throttle at low rpm on off through traffic

There are a number of reasons to decat
More sound and the possibility of better HP gains when tuned
Leovince make a decat with the inline silencer and Graves make a decat utilizing the exup valve but no one makes a decat with both
They both have advantages and I thought I would see if the gains with both the valve and inline silencer made any difference
If your not familiar with the exup have a search and read up...some good interesting info plastered throughout this forum

I see. I thought that big chunk of pipe was just another cat. I lost my cat the first day I had my bike. It's just a straight-thru pipe. No cat, no flapper. Is there any reason why you didn't just go with a 3/4 exhaust? Just trying to figure out why you did this. Are you expecting a better sound? It does look like nice craftsmanship. Who did it for you?
Thanks for the reply BTW.

Heya Bill yep Im happy with the workmanship. It was done by an exhaust fabricator who makes cans silencers and resonators. I wasn't looking for a show piece underneath but raw and practical. I think we achieved that I did it because I wanted more noise than what the end can and cat offered but not a straight through pipe like yours. At the same time I really didn't want a loud as bike that would annoy and scare the shit outa every car I passed I didn't go 3/4 system because I couldn't find one that offered both for a reasonable price As mentioned earlier a Graves link pipe here in NZ would set me back $2000.00 and that's a lot of gas and riding time plus I didn't want titanium The leovince would have been $400 landed at my door but was still missing the exup My fabricator done the whole shebangle for $400 Am I happy yes I am. I got good sound a noticeable performance boost and cash for gas in my pocket

A while ago now, but have you had a chance / funds to check the fuelling. Has this cat replacement leaned it out at all. I ask as I’ve had my MT for a year now and want to do exactly what you have done. Thanks.

I did remove the can in the pic and bolted the stock unit back up. That little can just made my head hurt after a good ride.
I rode a stock unit not so long ago and noticed it pulled better between 6 to 8 rpm so that inspired me to rethink a tune and is at the shop waiting on cables from woolich
Our winter here now so wont be on it for a few months yet. To tell the truth I would have been happy to run it as it was but now Ive had the bike a while and using the power much more decided to do the right thing (piece of mind as well)
It will be interesting to see how far out the fueling will be. Ill post up once I get them

OK, understood. I see some of the folks are using car exhaust Tips. May try that first as its easy to reverse. If that's not audible then I'll follow your lead with a slip on and db killer so I can mute it if annoying. I expected a dyno run regardless, hopefully may be able to avoid the added expense of a rapid bike as well. Never thought I'd miss carbs but swapping jets was time consuming but significantly cheaper! Thanks for posting up the information,

I asked him to just smooth the throttle hole at 5k and get the fueling right plus remove the decel cut to which he forgot (a bit disappointed but hey)
With the setup posted above but the stock can fitted up it made 141 hp probably down on stock (if someone could confirm) and with the fueling adjustments came back up to 145
He says the fueling was quite lean all over but especially around 5-7k where he adjusted for 23% more fuel
I have not yet ridden it as my rego is on hold till our spring comes back round but I would expect a small but noticeable increase in power through that rev range

Hi Sy hopefully your still here😊 I have the Leo vince pipe similar to yours although smaller bean tin, and intend to get local fabricator to graft in the exup valve from standard box! is this what you used? and have you rode the tuned bike yet? and what do you think, over here in UK tuners are claiming 150+ bhp with just link and standard can but hellishly loud......I’m not after peak power but good pulling from low down to mid range hopefully the hybrid will achieve this...... at moment with Leo + standard can it’s lost some low down grunt, I presume as it will be lean due to needing map.. any info, advice or feedback greatfully received

Heya sparkie
Yep I desecrated the stock box and cut off the front joint to the header and the exup to make mine
The tune I asked for was just to get the AF ratios right so peak power wasn't my goal. I just wanted to prevent a blown motor from running too lean after the decat. I was also was looking to smooth out a dip in power at 5k
Hp power numbers came upto 145hp at 9500rpm but I gained back 18hp at 7k and around 8-10 hp more from 5k upto 6.5k rpm so it was a very noticeable gain.
The top number is probably about stock numbers but the low to midrange got quite a nice boost
Oh and Ive gone back to the noisy can as pictured at the top of page...now without the backfires
