Gentlemen,
My left hand fork has begun to weep oil a little, which - if it continues - will cause ME to weep.
It is said that the majority of such cases is due to some dirt getting in there, requiring not much more than a clean out.
My question is though - how does one remove the dust covers? Simply pry them off with a screwdriver?!

One on order, as a matter of fact.
That said, I'm quite competent, but just was curious as to whether these pry off? I am being rightfully careful! Lol

You can certainly use a screwdriver to pry them off. I dunno what the pros use, if theres some sort of seal tool out there.
2 things I haven't messed with on bikes and its forks and valves. I leave them two up to the pros.

I think I'll just run the SealMate through the dust cap rather than risk the screwdriver slipping!

How many miles you done? Maybe it's time for a fork service and then you can get the whole lot done.

Less than 5k. It seems to have just been a spot of dirt. No weeping since from the fork or rider.

The pros simply use a nylon pry bar. Some will carefully use screwdriver with good results.

Yep. Never use a metal tool near the forks; it's a recipe for disaster. Ha ha. In fact, I rarely use a screwdriver for anything other than what it's designed to do. Have lots of pry tools, and of different hardness. Much safer.
