Somehow got it in my head Friday night (beer may or may not have been involved) that doing a completely unplanned Iron Butt ride the next day would be a great idea. Set my alarm for 4am. Got up when the alarm went off, showered, drank a protein drink, threw two bottles of water in the top case and headed out. 15 hours and 1,055 miles later pulled back up to the same gas station two miles from my house that I started out. The combination of cruise-control, comfort seat, and MRA windscreen made the trip 10X as easy as it would have been without those three things. 8 stops for gas and had lunch at a Burger King at the turnaround point. The ride was from Holly Springs, NC to Flagler Beach, FL and back, I-95 almost the entire way. Not a glamorous ride, but a good one for packing on the miles in a hurry.

Glad iam not the only one that does such things...
How did you feel after and the next day?
Crippled, exhausted or ready to do it again?
For me, somewhere in between!

Glad iam not the only one that does such things... How did you feel after and the next day? Crippled, exhausted or ready to do it again? For me, somewhere in between! When it was over and I got home I drank two beers and half of a bourbon and coke along with 5-6 pieces of homemade beef jerky and went to bed. I took 2 Advil before going to bed. I felt a little creaky but not too bad. I slept extra late for me, didn't get out of bed this morning until almost 8am. Ate breakfast, went outside and cleaned up the bike. I feel pretty great right now. Seriously even considering going for a short (50-ish miles) ride today because the weather is PERFECT here. So "somewhere in between" for me, too. But closer to the "ready to do it again" side than the "crippled/exhausted" side, fortunately. This was the first Iron Butt ride I'd done since reaching the other side of the half-century mark. I turn 52 in 3 months. Maybe I should start doing one of these rides every other year just to see if "I've still got it." Or... maybe not.

Ahh Holly Springs! My sister lived there for a while before moving to Apex. Are you from NC or one of the many northerners who moved to the area? I am envious of your roads BTW. Whenever I come to visit my sis, I'm always looking at the roads, wishing I had my bike to ride them. I commute on my MT10 from long island to NYC. Luckily I work weird hours and I can often ride it well, but a lot of my time on it is fighting traffic and lane splitting.

Thinking of moving to Florida in a few years. I grew up in Fayetteville, went to NCSU, have been working out in RTP for the last 27 years. Yeah, nice area, nice roads, but getting too crowded. I guess others have heard how nice it is.

I just got tired of riding on all of the awesome twisty roads in the area day after day after day after day in the perfect weather we've been having. Yeah, I did it by myself. Last 2 iron butt rides I did I also did alone. I get it that it's not for everyone. I still sleep at night somehow.
