I need to reroute my clutch, front brake line and other handlebar control cables. There is a small metal wire, bent in angles, wrapped around the cables on the right side. It is welded to a bracket, bolted to the steering column. However, that bolt head is a smooth cone shape. Nothing to grip to undo. How do you reroute these cables without clipping this metal bar?

Looks like some kind of security nut to hold the key cylinder, the part marked 11 should be the wire holder you're talking about: Looks like you'll just have to take it apart to see, but might not come off without some special tool, I cant quite see if there are spanner notches or not. This is what he is talking about, see the silver cone? photos upload sites

Wait even if I get the stem nut off, will that safety bolt keep me from lifting the plate off the forks? That’s how I had planned on rerouting the cables. If I have to I’ll just clip part 11 out, but if that safety bolt keeps me from lifting the steering plate, it’s “Game Over man, Game Over”.
Could you tell me the size of part number 8? The steering stem nut. I am hoping that it will come apart once I get the steering plate up and off.

Not sure of that size, but bigger than the rear axle nut. All of my big tools are in a storage space, and nothing to measure with, sorry.
A mod might have to move this thread to the tech questions section.

Thanks for the help. I think that it is a 36mm socket.

It is a 36mm. I had to go to three different hardware stores and found it at Lowe’s. After removing the stem nut and lifting the steering clamp, I found out that the brake line needs to be moved as well. If any has done this before, could you please give pics and directions on where you moved everything?

I removed the upper brake hose clamp from the fork and still had enough slack with 2" risers. Also, to get enough slack with the wiring harnesses on the right side, you just remove the fasteners holding the right side scoop and remove the cover, remove the zip ties and pull the slack through. Also spun the throttle around to get enough cable slack and drilled a new alignment hole in the handlebar. Clutch cable, same thing, just pulled enough slack through. how did your route your brake line and did you have to remove it from the bracket mounted to the triple clamp? So far, it looks as if I will need to drill a hole in my bar, so that I can turn the throttle lines downward. However, the brake line is still too tight. I have removed it from the two tie down areas, on the triple, but it doesn't seem to be helping.
The things we do for comfort. If only the comfort seat was available for under $100, then my main issues would be taken care of.

I'm at work right now and won't be home until next week to look at what I did, but I think just removing the upper metal clamp (or clamps, can't remember) gave it enough slack. I extended the forks a few times to check it and it was fine, had no tension on it (I didn't re-route it). I'm not sure if you can see it in any of the pics I posted. I'm definitely limited to how much I can adjust my bars though, there's not much slack left in that brake line.
