I have read a number of impressions of the Yamaha branded comfort seat and the issue with the cover tearing near the tank and that the seat base then has an open season on scratching the paint on the tank. A number of people have offered solutions. I decided to contact Yamaha Motor Canada about this issue on my FZ10. Wow, what a waste of time. Over the course of the week they indicated that they were not aware of any issues (yet, from what I have read on line, many have been replaced under warranty), they also asked me to send pictures and first argued that it didn't look like their seat then told me that it looks like I didn't mount the seat properly and, by inference, it's obviously my problem.
So here's my question, has anybody else on here tried to talk to their respective country's Yamaha representative office about this matter? I'd love to know if anyone had success arguing the defect in the product and whether they had a successful outcome or did you experience the same result as myself?

I purchased mine used so I did not follow-up with Yamaha.
However, I know damn well if I would've spent the $220 or whatever it was and it started ripping like that, I would've been on the phone with Yamaha or trying to return it.
I have stopped the tearing by using the taller rubber gromits on the front part of the seat as well. Makes the seat a pain in the ass to take on and off but it seems to have stopped the ripping completely by keeping the seat off of the tank. I've explained it in detail in another thread about this.

Mine came with the bike also. Come to Canada, they will lighten your wallet by over $500 plus tax to have the privilege of attaching their fancy seat.

I got the problem fixed because I knew I'd engage in a futile fight with Yamaha and lose anyway. And the OP just proved that it'd had been precisely the case. Ha ha. Since I didn't want the seat any higher (inseam challenged here), I fixed the play with half a washer glued with 'Crazyglue' under the cavity on the bike (not the seat). I played with a few until it was perfect, meaning I had to push the seat down to engage it, but not too hard. I also loosened the rear latch and retightened as far back as possible, to minimize the force at the edges. And finally, put black Velcro patches on the tank to prevent any damage, just in case. What causes the damage is the up and down movement of the seat. That has to be fixed with either taller grommets (which forces the seat 'tongue' against the upper cavity), or by shimming the cavity, like I did. Without the seat moving up and down, or minimally, wear is lessened by at least 90% IMO. And the rest is eliminated with something on the tank. Since my bike is black, black Velcro squares did the trick for me. Just get creative, but don't expect Yamaha to do crap . Good luck.

I have 3 seats for my bike and the comfort seat is the only one that doesn't seem to fit correctly up at the tank. I like the shimming idea mentioned and I'm now worried about having the seat torn up near the tank. I really only use the comfort seat when I do two up riding with my wife, because the Seat Concepts is so much better for me at least.
