So I just got a sena 30k and the damn things creates all kinds of wind noise in my left ear. To be clear I'm referring to the actual unit itself outside the helmet not wind noise with the mic. Never had this much wind noise until I mounted the unit. I use a Shoei rf12000 helmet. When cruising on the freeway the amount of wind noise created is absolutely horrible to the point it starts to hurt my left ear. Anyone else have this problem and if so what have you done to help reduce the wind noise. I'm thinking about sliding the unit more towards the back of the helmet. Need help on this one. Thanks in advance. BigKurka

You should post a picture of your helmet, but you already mentioned the issue you probably have. I have a Cardo Freecom4 unit mounted basically below where the shield pivot point is on my Shoei GT-Air helmet, and zero extra noise. I can have a phone conversation at 80 mph even with my 32-dB earplugs... and I don't have a windscreen (my bike is fully stock). If you clipped your unit in place, it should be easy to move rearward. My helmet is not compatible with a clip, so I had to glue the base to the helmet, and fearing what you're going thru, went as far back as possible. No issues working the unit, even with gloves. Hope this helps. It should work. The RF1200 should be similar to my helmet in noise levels. By the way, I had to use the speaker 'pads', and you'll probably too, as an FYI.

Here's a couple of pictures of my helmet. I didn't actually install it the guy at cycle gear that helped me installed it for me. I already added the speaker spacers to the speakers. Both speaker just barely touch my ears. My bike is basically stock also, no windscreen, when I left my house this morning I had the volume set pretty loud but not full and it was good until I got on the freeway and the wind noise started. I turned it to full volume but then it was just to loud. Ok this is just to funny not to say. So I'm sitting here typing and I'm looking at my helmet and I just noticed that my visor on the left side was not fully seated in place. Just popped it back in place. I'll see how it sounds tonight and report back this evening. Hopefully that was my problem.

Ok so even after fixing my visor there is still a lot of wind noise going on. I know its coming from the sena because if I put my hand in front of it the wind noise changes and kinda goes away. I guess my next move is to try and mount the unit further back on my helmet. Hopefully that will help cut down enough wind noise to were it not to bothersome. If anyone has run in to this problem and has a solution other than using ear buds I'd really like to hear about it. Thanks in advance.

I would try to move it forward or back. It might change the aerodynamic movement of the air and deflect it away from your ear.

Hey brother, I know what your problem is: That damn thing is HUGE. Look at mine below. Your unit is as further back as it can go IMO, so forget about that being the issue. The darn thing is just like a stage-4 tumor (ha ha), taking a huge part of your helmet. And probably most detrimentally, it's very close to your shield. It also doesn't help that it's separated from the helmet (I used the double-sided tape on mine). I honestly don't see how you can make things any better without buying something else, but you could always try, including using the double-sided base (if supplied), rather than the clip. Good luck, and keep us posted.

RedAndBlack, elptxjc So I’ve been messing with my sena ever night this week and have made some big improvements on the wind noise. I moved the unit towards the rear about 1.5” and it made a huge improvement. Still have some wind noise but it is about 70% better than what it was. I also have been messing with the speaker position. I can now be cruising around 90mph and still hear my music with out it being at full volume. I might try moving the unit a tad more to see if it helps more but for right now I couldn’t be happier with it. All I got to do now is learn how to use it and REMEMBER how to use it 😁
