New member from LA (Lower Alabama) Bought a 2018 blue MT10 last week. As long as your not lugging it around it's awesome Otherwise it's not so smooth... I notice when I come in for a landing that it smells like cooked oil? Is this normal....... Or do I own a lemon!

Dont post much but will chime in for sh!ts and giggles. Came off cruiser life for about 13 years (yes had sport bikes in the past) and into the MT and it took me a minute Bike is friggin a solid freight train. Rider error was my issue. Got the suspension tightened up for my XL butt and went back to basics. I can lug it at 2 to 3 mph at red light with 0 issues now. As far as the smell unless your railing it right away probably just excessive lube in weird and dark places lol!!
YES the bar should be black but it dang sure works good!! Hahaha
And you gotta a warranty I would guess so you should be golden.

And what's up with the galvanized pipe for a handle bar.... I also wasn't a fan of the bar height.... killed two birds with one stone....or one bar rather... Where there is a will... there is a way..

No engine should be lugged, keep your rev's up, the throttle is in YOUR hands. Of course it isn't smooth if you are lugging the engine, don't do it. This ain't a big vee twin.
Engine, exhaust and other hot surfaces are just burning off cosmoline and other lubrication and protective materials, it'll go away in short order. But check your oil level to make sure you are topped up.

Welcome to the experience of owning a machine! You're gonna LOVE this bike! A little time and finesse and she'll submit. Avoided traffic and congested places until I got the feel of this bike...it likes to stretch its legs and run out in the open. I too get "that smell" from time to time, seems like after a longer stint at higher revs when I have to come to a stop. All fluids up to par and 4,000 miles. Hopefully someone with greater knowledge than I will shed a little light on this. Enjoy your new toy!

My bar is the same one as in the picture, not black like a few of you have said. Mine is the 2018 Team Yamaha Blue US version.

They changed their bars to improve it. I've done this on past bikes and didn't like the vibrations from them. Knowing now a set of heavy Bar ends would've helped.
I've grown to like the team yamaha blue MT. But had intended to purchase the Ice Fluo version, none were available near me at any color so I found a new 2018 , (120 miles) away...in another state.
That's how hard they are to come by here in L.A. (Lower Alabama).

Beautiful bike man. You're going to love it. I grew up around Harleys and until a couple years ago had only had experience with a few metrics over the years. One thing I learned about metrics in general (and sport / sport-touring / naked in particular) is that they like a little more revs than the big twins. Slipping the clutch and keeping a few revs makes things much smoother at low speeds. I was fortunate enough to find an Ice Fluo 2019 - these bikes are unfortunately hard to find around here, but when I called my local Yamaha dealer and found out they had ONE in stock, I was in the showroom the next morning. This thing is a monster and comfortable to boot. Enjoy!

After seeing these two colors it almost makes me regret getting the all black lol. Coming from my FZ8 I am having a hard time getting used to the clutch as well. My FZ8 would just take off from a stop. This thing really requires riding the clutch and or taking off more aggressively than I’d like when in traffic.

Clutch is grabby especially when cold. A way to fix this should it he a bother is to brim your engine with oil and tie the clutch lever in and leave it over night. It's the equivalent of soaking the clutch. Remember to drain the oil the next day to the correct level. It will need doing again in about 3 months or so. As for the bars, I got a set of XSR900 bars which are pretty much the same profile for $45 (£35 in the UK). These are black and pretty much a straight swap. Need to drill the location holes for the switches and throttle though. Saves removing your own ones and sending them to get sprayed up to then refit. Plus I have a spare set now.
