Im guessing this might be a metal shaving left in the engine from the factory that blocked an oil line. Was a similar case on this forum before. Luckily thise things happen at warranty kilometers.

So what's that, three engines that have fragged themselves on this forum? How many more that don't post on this forum? Disconcerting to say the least. The first two owners have basically gone MIA.

Dang that friggin blows... is that chunk part of the casing or what actually was inside??
That's a big chunk of metal rattling around in a motor.
Guess I'm going back to what I always did and changing oil again at 1500 miles. Man that sux!! Sorry bro!!

I think there is probably over-reporting on forums. If you encounter a catastrophic failure like your engine grenading, you're more likely to seek out a place to talk about it than if nothing goes wrong. On average, Yamaha is pretty darn good when it comes to QC by any metric I've seen. Every vehicle manufacturer will produce a few flawed products when they're churning out this many. But I'm sure there are others. I agree that it would be nice if the others who have encountered these issues would post a follow-up, though.

For every 3 engines that you guys have read about blowing up there is thousands upon thousands of yamas that are running with high mileage perfectly fine......RELAX BOYS

I think this is the THIRD motor posted here that blows. Even if all 3 were Yamaha's fault (meaning no service/owner issue lead to the failure, like low oil level, etc), it's still a super low number, as mentioned, as there has to be at least several thousand FZ/MT-10s produced by now. Therefore, even if all 3 are Yamaha's fault, I suspect human error, like a tech not blowing oil passages properly, or such. If it was a bad batch of parts, or a design issue, there would be a lot more IMO.
Hey OP, is there any difference from SP bikes to regular ones? Looking at the same rev limit of 11,800 rpm on your bike, makes me think the answer is no, but rather ask. That means it doesn't matter if the bike is an SP or not; same engine. Also wonder how many R1 engines have failed. That engine is much more stressed, and more cross-plane R1s have been produced (since 2014?) than FZ/MT-10s. Curious about that.
My final thought is motors don't grenade all of a sudden. There's a progressive deterioration, but on noisy motorcycle engines, it's more difficult to detect if not looking for it. I'm not scared of my engine grenading, but what frustrates me is hearing how badly Yamaha is handling those cases. Months without your bike is absolutely ludicrous IMO.

The SPs have an electronically controlled ohlins suspension, a color tft dash, and a unique paint job. I believe those are the differences and they are otherwise the same mechanically.

I agree that three engines isn't a lot percentage wise, but in all the different forums I've been on (YZF-600R, FJR, FZ6, FZ1 and this one) I can't remember any engine destroying itself and posted by anyone. Engines are stressed higher now than 10-15 years ago, something caused these engines to blow other than just bad luck. I don't know what percentage of MT-10 owners are on forums so we really don't if this is a larger issue which just doesn't get any sunlight.

That's why I was asking about R1 engines, since those are WAY more stressed than ours, by comparison, and Yamaha makes more of those too. Any failures reported? I'm sure both use the same block, but most internals might be different. Does anybody know? I'm not worried about my engine, but it's always possible to get a bad one even if you do everything right with it. I already had so many bad engines on my vehicles (1 F-150 V8, 2 Corvettes, 1 Pontiac GTO, 1 M3 V8, 1 Audi V8TT), that I hope my bad luck with that is over. He he. We'll see.

So guys, from first informations i get from service, there is possible material failure on one piston rod. Yamaha delaer send bike somewhere to specialized Yamaha service in Vienna. Because of insufficient spare engines (or parts), dealership send me spare MT10SP to ride until they finish my bike, so thumbs up for Yamaha services in Slovakia 👍👍👍

After googling it, there were definitely a few 15 r1s that blew up, but there are kinks to work out in the first gen of any engine. I thought waiting til an 18 on this bike was the right move for that reason, given they were using the r1 as a base, but it may have been premature. In any case I think these incidents are by far the exception rather than the rule.

That's why I was asking about R1 engines, since those are WAY more stressed than ours, by comparison, and Yamaha makes more of those too. Technically the MT-10 engine is more stressed than the R1 below 10K rpms, look at the dyno chart. At 10K the MT-10 checks out, and the R1 goes to the moon.

Havent had a lot of time to be on the forums, but i thought i updated my post regularly when i could regarding the motor. its running "fine" but time will tell, hopefully was just something from manufacturer and the rebuild will last, i just came back from a different dealer for warranty replacement of the headlamps as the low beam had approx 4-5 seperate cracks in the lens with no sign of rock impacts. took about 3 weeks to get yamaha to approve it, although the dealer was to blame in the delay. so new headlamps and rebuilt motor. im at the 10.2k mark on the motor at just over 1 year.
