So I have an R1 currently and I love it but I'm thinking about selling it and getting an MT-10 for more comfort and something a little more practical. I'm usually only able to ride when I'm heading to work so mostly just commuting on the highway about 40 miles round trip. The cruise control is very enticing and I love my quickshifter on the R1 so I'm happy they carried that over to the MT-10. I also like the fact that I still get the R1 platform. Has anyone made the switch from the R1 to the MT-10? If so is there anything you miss about the R1 or are you happy about the switch?

I just sold my 2016 gsxr 1000 for a fz10 and LOVE it. Great bike and i don't regret it at all, before the 1000 i had a zx14r with 200hp at the rear wheel and i still love the fz10, it's a great bike.

Sandovalm: The MT-10, IMHO, is proof that you CAN have your cake and eat it ! I really feel that Yamaha aimed this bike specifically at Sportsbike riders who wanted an alternative for the road, ie: no aching wrists, back, neck or knees , but still with similar performance.
Yes, I`ve no doubt it would start to feel a bit compromised above 130 mph on a track, but that`s why you buy one of these, instead of the R1, as it`s designed to deliver everything for the road, which it does, and then some !!
I`ve owned absolutely loads of Sportsbikes in the past, but NEVER have I owned a bike I enjoy riding as much as this; it really is that that good.
Get yourself a test-ride booked, you won`t regret it !

I have a 2016 R1 and a 2018 MT-10, I would really miss the R1 if I traded it in. But if I were forced to pick one, I would keep the MT-10. The MT-10 is just better for the street. At first I didn’t like it as much, it took me about 1000 miles to get used to the different position.I felt like I had better control on the R1. If I had based it on a test ride I probably wouldn’t have got it.

The powerband on the 10 is awesome, i havent actually been on a R1 but i hear you have to get the revs wmquite high up to get it into the powerband. The 10 starts at 5k, and then REALLY takes off at 7k. So much that you need to watch out for power wheelies on both marks if you do a hard acceleration. The front wheel is really happy to jump up on this one.

I’m definitely going to get a test ride in before I pull the trigger but after all the research and video reviews I’ve watched I’m pretty convinced. Like I said before I love the R1 but for me I don’t have the time to track it and it’s just not practical for what I use my motorcycle for. Looking forward to testing this bike out for sure.

I wish I could track the R1 but between work and family I just don’t have the time. I was a little skeptical about the riding position because most of my riding has been on sport bikes. Thanks for the input!

I miss my r6 in the corners, but it's not a big downgrade. Extended rides like your daily is where the MT is miles ahead.

Oh, i forgot to say that you will love the cruise control option. The seating position is upright enouh that you can just sot up anf hold a finger on the barweight, or cpmfortably tale your hands off completely (of there is no traffic around ofcause, be safe)

Especially since my commute is mostly highways! Think I'm going to test ride one tomorrow so I'm looking forward to that.

Alright guys! I pulled the trigger and got myself an MT-10! I'm super pumped and excited to start racking up the miles on this thing. I haven't gotten to ride it too much yet but I can already tell I'm going to enjoy it so much more than my R1. I do miss her though! Thanks everyone for the advice and input glad I'm part of the naked bike community.

I kept my 2016 R1. The MT-10 parks beside it in the garage.
They probably talk to one another at night lol.

Welcome to the club matey, I have owned Street Triple R, Daytona 675, and 955, Speed Triple 955i, K3&K5 Gixer 1000, 2 x 918 Fireblades and RR9 Blade, Mille R RSV, Exup 1000, 99 & 2001 R1 and many more and can say without a doubt that this MT10 is THE best bike I have owned, and that’s coming from a committed sportsbike rider. They were all good but this is in a different league especially if the roads are your playground. Enjoy.

I had only seen one in the show room and hadn't even sat on one. I knew from reviews and You tube videos that I would love this bike and I WAS RIGHT! Haven't even put 300 miles on mine yet and already love it.
