I bought my black 2017 MT-10 (Australia) brand new, in January 2018 and it now has 15,000km on it. I’m 54 and been riding since I was 8yo. I have owned 17 motorcycles and I think the MT is the best as it is so capable (with strong predictable power delivery, awesome sound, comfort, handling and standard features), despite some niggling problems. I found this website while researching those problems which began after 10 months (ie starting issues when parked in the sun on hot days & cruise control that won’t turn on, just flashes). If anyone has experienced these problems or more importantly fixed them, please respond. It was in the local Yamaha dealership two weeks ago and they found a faulty front brake switch causing the cruise control issue but I am less confident about the starting issue, for which they cleaned carbon from the throttle bodies. I have included some images from last weeks trip riding through the windy roads of the Victorian Alpine region (1800km in 4 days).

Welcome. Fellow Australian here (Qld). My 2018 MT10SP has 7000km's on it now and no problems at all (touch wood). My only mods are a G2 throttle tamer and a solo seat cowl for cheap rego. Looks like you have a decent setup. Enjoy.

Welcome to the forum.
I believe the bikes have been known to have cruise control issues when they have an engine fault code. One of the most common of these seems to be when people clean their chain up on a stand with the bike running. This will cause a fault code that will disable the Cruise Control until the code is cleared out of the ECU, even if the check engine light no longer illuminates.
So if you've cleaned your chain on a stand with the bike running or had some other similar fault with your wheels, this may be the issue. Unfortunately this is usually something that the dealer has to do.
As far as the issues starting, it could be a problem with the hoses going to and from the gas tank or the AIS system (emissions) if the Australian versions have the extra emissions that a lot of the American models do. I removed the charcoal box from my bike and had to reinstall it because it was seemingly causing a vapor lock type of issue and I was having problems starting the bike in the sun, presumably when the gas fumes would expand. This might not be it, but my best shot at the dark on what the issues could be.

Welcome, cruise control issues are often due to interlock switches on the brakes or clutch. Make sure they are clean and properly functioning. That is one big ass luggage system, it has to have an effect on handling.

Australian_ Sydney Nov 2016 build. 30,000km on the dial 3 years old. Since day 1 I’ve experienced intermittent issues starting when parked in the sun on a warm 30+ degree day. Ive raised this several times over the years, Yamaha says nothing wrong. Queensland rider believed they fixed his by replacing the fuel pump but turns out he’s still got the same issue. Regarding cruise control, only recently I’m noticing when cruise control is on I cannot get it to set. turn cruise control on/off while riding a few times and maybe it starts working. It works as it should most of the time but the issue is becoming more frequent. Tends to happen more in the first 20 minutes of riding...? Or at least that’s what I think...

Hey brother, welcome to the family. Man, your bike looks like the first 3-person FZ/MT-10 . Glad it's working out for you, but it must handle like crap, as previously mentioned, no? Especially if you like to ride aggressively, like most of us. It must now wheelie even in 6th gear.

Hi elptxjc Yes we like to go hard, especially on the windy roads and it handled not ideal but was fine.

For an update on the 2 issues I referred to above. I am happy to say, I have not experienced either issues since the work done in March by the dealer. The cruise control was definitely fixed by the switch replacement. The starting problem in the sun in hot weather is harder to tell, as summer was over by then. It hasn't happened since they cleaned out the throttle bodies (carbon may have built up as I commute to work almost everyday), if that was the problem. This summer I noticed that it started to hesitate when starting in the sun. After that I changed the direction the bike was parked, in relation to the sun. Originally I was parking the bike's rear to the sun (bad). When hesitating it was parked side on to the sun. These days I face it into the sun for the hottest part of the day so the headlight shroud etc keeps the sun off the (black) tank. I have had many days over 30 degrees Celcius with no problem or even hesitation.

The starting issue is to do with fuel vapour building in the charcoal cannister and lines. Remove the cannister and you won't have this issue again.
It's taken out as standard by a number of tuners and is an emissions eco thing.
It's why you only have this issue on hot sunny days.
As for the switches, the clutch and the brake are actually housing containing two tiny microswitches. The plunger that activate both these can get stuck as can the actual switches inside. You take apart and clean and even replace the little buggers if your out of warranty.
