Hello everyone ... I bought a fjr1300 back in 03... still have it to this day with 84k on the clock. It’s been my baby for a long long time. Buddy has a 2015 Honda VFR1200 and has been telling me how much technology has evolved on bikes etc..... so today I thought I’d treat myself and purchase a 2018 MT10.... pickup in a couple days or so (no biggie as it’s still cold and wet in Toronto) Anyway. Reviews have been great as I’m sure you all are aware. Anyone else entering MT10 land from a slightly older bike and have feelings and impressions to share? Really curious to see if the differences will be drastic of not. I realize that the style of bike is much different than my ole faithful FJR.... but by how much I wonder??? Cheers to all! Thx

Well, I have owned many rides including EXUP 1000RU, 98 &2001 R1, 01 Mille R, 97/99/09 Firebades, Triumph 98/01 955i Daytona, 02 Speed Triple, 675R Street triple & Daytona, 89 CBR1000F, SV650N, Bandit 600 x2, ZXR400H & ZX6R, GPZ750R and quite a few more I've forgotten and I can say, without a doubt, this is the MOST crazy ride I have ever known.
All the above bikes had their special something and even a sorted 28 year old CBR1000F can tour like any other sport tourer and whilst some do what they do exceptionally well and others are just ok to ride, I can honestly say that every time I take the MT10 out it blows me away.
It'll tour, scratch, wheelie, or commute. It has power EVERYWHERE, it handles well enough (there are a few shortcomings which can be dialled out with some adjustment but quite honestly you may not even notice depending how you ride) and the first thing to do once it has been run in (some don't) is to change the front brake pads for either Brembo SC/SA or SBS street excel pads as the standard brakes whilst ok, the pad material makes a big difference on these bikes for some reason.
Oh, and get a pipe and maybe a decat to liberate that fabulous cross plane noise.
Enjoy the new experience.

Thanks for the responses! Waking up today on my 49th birthday, to the two replies has absolutely got my heart racing....every video I have watched regardimgnthis bike has the rider laughing like a little school girl when cracking open the throttle.... must be some truth to that. My FJR (still keeping it as the 3k trade in offer made me feel bad for bike that has given me years and years of enjoyment) And that’s just it... I enjoy every ride on this 16 year old bike..... what the hell is the MT10 going to do to me!!! Oh my!!!

If you do a traditional break in, you are going to have fun riding it and love how agile it is. Will be a little more unprotected compared the the FJR obviously but back to some old school ride memories, at least it was for me. The real fun will come when you've done break in and the true power of the crossplane comes to the forefront . If you've ever ridden a 2 stroke in the past, it's very much what the power delivery reminds me of. Yes you will see she'll get of the line very well (as you'll see) but when you can get her past 8k revs, hang on and smile for miles. Have fun, I'm waiting on the weather like you.

Yeah, me too. The weather in Blighty at present is bad so I can't wait.
When I bought my Street Triple R, I went in to try the newer Speed Triple and wasn't impressed after my RR9 Blade and my mate in the shop was like, you wanna try the Street Triple.
I said don't be daft, its too small, I like litre bikes. He said I'd either come back in 10 mins and throw the keys back at him or I'd be an hour and come back giggling like a schoolgirl. Needless to say I bought the STR and the MT10 is in a similar vein but with much more power.
It's a laugh a minute, but you can ride it with a sensible head on if you wish, just leave it in mode 3-3.
Modes 1-1 will see the front wheel coming up at around 90mph in 3rd gear and short shifting will just see the front going light from 1 through 4! It's crazy.

Also waiting for better weather. However im on a few days vacation in Southern Spain before work i have to do here, and the itch to ride just gets worse seeing all the nice bikes in these twisties. Just one more month... I second all above. The 10 is an amazing all around tool. Im even looking to do a long tour (Finland to Italy and back) on it this summer. Its tame when you want it to, its nimble, its stable, its an absolute beast when you unleash it (not the "ooooh yeah BABY" way, the "ooh ye- HOLY SHIT!" way). My only complaint about this bike is its fuel economy/range and the fact that there is no way youll ever pin it on the streets. Oh and I dont like the suspension too much, but thats propably because im 240 pounds

Oh, and with the FJR still in you possesion, the only type of riding you cant do at the moment is offroad, everything else goes

Thanks again for the replies.. A comment was said that they were not happy with the suspension as they were 240lbs.... well I’m 6’5” and 250.... FJR handled me over the years with no issues or suspension upgrades. Will the MT be ok if it stays stock as well?

Im the one who complained about it.
Its not a deal breaker at all. It is completely rideable, and the suspension is without a doubt the best in the FZ series.
My problem is that i want to do some touring with it, and the added weight would surely start affecting the suspension in annoying ways. Thats why im debating with myself wether a suspension upgrade is reasonable.
