Hey guys, so I was wondering if anyone had any tips on cleaning the oil cooler and radiator? Specifically between the fins and the front surfaces behind the front wheel. We've had a lot of rain here and that oil cooler is filthy with dirt and all sorts of muck. Was going to try foaming bug and tar remover, spray it into the fins and as it foams it pushes the dirt out? Dunno if it's safe to use on bare aluminium though.

I'd use something specific for the job, like these: www.amazon.com/s?k=radiator+fin+cleaner&ref=nb_sb_noss_1 . But so far I've been good with water and a toothbrush. Of course radiator grilles help, but at the same time make the job of cleaning the radiator itself impossible without removal first. But it was a PITA to space mine away from the fins everywhere, so don't plan on removing them anytime soon . Good luck.

After you get it clean put some guards on them. That makes future cleaning a breeze.

Thanks for the tips guys, my bike has guards on it so it's a bit tough to get brushes onto the rad. That foaming stuff looks good but searching for it here in Aus, doesn't seem like it's an easy to find product. Also what kind of protection would you recommend to put on the oil cooler and rad after its clean? If there is such a thing.

Evotech is the way to go, guard wise.

I already have radguard radiator and oil cooler guards on there, they sit about. 5 to 1cm away from the rad and cooler just in case a giant object hits it, it won't get to the rad. Removing them is a pita though, found some bowdens wheel cleaner that turns purple as it strips stuff off wheels and then you just hose it off. Not sure if it would be too harsh on the rad material though. Basically just want something that doesn't involve brushing. Might go to a car wash and give the engine bay cleaner a go.

It turning purple is because its a Iron (fallout) remover. Cant imagine that being good for the delicate radiators.
Basically it bonds to iron chemically, kind of like an acid (although most of them are Ph neutral, dont really know how they actually work)

Yeh I've been looking at it and it seems like it could discolour the rad too. Might try the foaming bug and tar remover and then wash it off with truck wash through my pressure washer followed by water from the garden hose.
