I've been debating which set of stands to buy, based on best value for the money. My final 2 choices for 'regular' stands are the Trackside pair for $140 shipped on Revzilla, and Moto-D Race stands for $150 shipped directly from them. The Pitbulls are completely out of consideration since the cheapest pair cost $335, and the $230 Abba stand is immensely better IMO. In addition, the mess of having 2 massive stands as garage ornaments doesn't attract me. The Abba stand is super slim, and for $25 extra, it'd come with a wall bracket for a total of $255. There's a version with a cumbersome (and bulky) 'arm' to lift the front tire for $285, but I don't need that for my FZ. I can lift it by just strapping the 'hole' in the swingarm to the bottom 'triangle' on the superbike stand. But even better, the GoldPlug magnetic drain plug I installed on my bike protrudes below the headers slightly, so the perfect location to lift the front with nothing in the way. There shouldn't be too much weight there with the bike suspended from the swingarm pivot, since it's very near its center of gravity. But much prefer to do it from there than under the headers. But for longer term, I'd just do it from the swingarm, like the front arm option does. Before pulling the trigger, I'd like to hear from at least one FZ/MT owner, to see how it works on our bike. And about how much weight is needed to lift the front of the bike. If nobody replies, I'll probably order it on Monday anyway, and reply here with my review. It'll be a bit over 100 bucks more expensive than either of my 2 'regular' options, but I should be able to get that back when I sell it, so the expense (cost new minus price used) should be about the same IMO. And zero risk of dropping the bike, plus very neat storage, so those 2 intangibles count for something  . Thanks. |

I’ve got the ABBA stand front and rear package to get both wheels off the ground and couldn’t be happier! Very secure when on the stand. I changed the tires a couple thousand miles back and made the process a breeze. Makes for cleaning the wheels (hi-viz) really easy. Assembly package once received was awesome, every part was packaged and labeled showing how it works with the stand. I’d highly recommend it! |

SOLD!  Thanks a lot for your reply. I'll order just the superbike stand (and wall bracket) though (sans the front arm), since they said if you find a way to get a strap on the bike without the arm it'd be equally stable, shown by a guy on a video standing on the pegs and lifting the front tire. It can also be held by the drain plug, so have 2 options. My main issue with the arm is how bulky it is to store, plus cumbersome to install. And with the hole on the FZ/MT-10, I'm sure it's not needed. I'll post results (and photo) on that, so others can judge if it's needed or not. Thanks again for your great help. |

I have the abba sky lift, not the stands. I'd never consider a stand again. Lift the bike up to clean it, change tires. Hell it's so easy to use, I lift my bike up just to lube the chain. But it's a lil bit pricier than the stands and it takes a big spot in the garage to store it. But with my bad back it was really the only option for me.

I have an abba stand and love it, super stable.
My other bike is a zzr1400 or zx14r which weighs a ton more than a MT10 and sure enough, steady as a rock.
Really is a great bit of kit.

I love mine as well. I would also spring for the front lift arm, since it’s just a short beam and a little sliding thing it doesn’t take up much storage space. To lift the front wheel off the ground while on the stand, I would be surprised if it was even 30-35 LBs. I can do it one handed and I’m old and out of shape.

I agree with ek5425, get the front lift arm. It will make your life much easier. The stand with the added arm really does not take up any more space than a traditional stand like a Pitbull. When I am not using the stand, I break it all down and store it in the corner of the garage. |

You know, I asked the Abba folks if just the superbike stand was stable enough to hold the front tire off the ground without the front lift arm, to make sure I didn't misinterpret their description, and they said yes. Even in their video the guy is standing on the pegs lifting the front repeatedly. As it says in the description, the lift arm is if you don't want, or can't, strap the back some other way. With the hole in our swingarm, I'm sure it'll be very easy. The strap goes there, and at the bottom of the stand, between the square tube and the angled 'foot' of the stand. In addition, as I mentioned, my GoldPlug protrudes beyond the headers a little, so I can lift the front from there as well. It shouldn't take much force to do that. The only instance I'll have to be more careful will be when changing tires, since I'll be changing the balance of the bike, but I'll strap the headers to the heavy jack just in case. If I feel I ever need the arm, I'd buy it, but don't think so. I already ordered the stand and bracket (and received shipping notification), so there's no going back. He he. I'll post my comments on lifting the front without the arm, how stable it is, how much the front wheel weighs while on the stand (it weighs 220 lbs, vs 240 at the rear, FYI). You save $50 (plus $38 for the wall bracket, so $88 for me) if you order it with the stand ($105 vs $55), as an FYI. The stand is much easier to use without that awkward and bulky arm; that's for sure. I feel pretty confident I won't need it, but will honestly answer that question when I get it next week, to help others in their decision . |

I really don’t understand the reasoning for not ordering the arm? You would rather lift the front of your bike using the oil pan drain plug? Sounds like a risky move to save a few bucks. But hey, it’s your bike not mine. Hope you like the stand as much as I do. It has been a very handy tool to add to the bike shop. |

If you read my post again, I'll lift it exactly the same way as the front arm, just without the arm . It's not really needed. Read it . The drain plug is a secondary location for extra safety, like when changing tires. I don't like extra crap I don't need. If you do, fine. Again, will post my experience when I get it. At least with the FZ/MT-10 with a smooth hole in the swingarm strapped to the base of the stand, the extra arm is not needed. But if I feel I need it, I'd say so, and just buy it. End of controversy . |

Well, got the stand today. There's no way to SAFELY lift the front wheel without the front arm on our bike. Wrote to Abba to remove any language that suggests that for future buyers. So if you want to lift both front and rear wheels, you're looking at a minimum of $285 (with wall brackets $340) with an Abba, vs $140 with Tracksides and $150 with D-Races. I honestly don't like the arm approach, so will probably just buy the $70 Trackside front stand, which is cheaper and safer. Those 2 stands are the safest combination IMO, since the FZ/MT-10 doesn't have anything where to grab it securely high up in the rear while trying to position a regular stand with the other hand, so the risk of dropping the bike is high. And a regular stand in the front is also safer (no freaking strap). It sucks having to spend that much in stands, but it's the safest solution for the bike IMO. Finally, with the left side arm on the Abba that long and only welded, no way I'd get on the bike while on the stand, or leave it for days, but to each his own. At least the 'screw' on the right side goes thru both sides of the tubing, so no issues there. Guess no stand is 100% secure if used continuously, but used only when needed, this combination (front only needs to hold 80 lbs, not 240. And no strap) seems to be IMO, both for mounting safety (no risk of dropping the bike), and stands not collapsing. Hope this helps.

May I ask a question, why do you need to lift the front wheel off the ground? These tires aren't susceptible to flat spotting and unless you need to remove the front tire to change it yourself what's the need for a front lift?

Plus it's nice to have one to clean the front wheel too. Not 100% safe to leave bike on any stands for a long time IMO, and like you said, not needed. My bike always rests upright on the Trackside wheel chock (from Revzilla). I will probably wait to buy the front stand until I move to my new house... unless I need tires before that. Will have a big garage there. Both stands will be used only when needed. Hope this answers your question. |

I have another solution for lifting the front but only for cleaning etc and that is a cheap ass paddock stand and a steel bar through thespindle. Work on the front and rear but you obviously cannot remove the wheels.  |

exuptoy .... of course I clean my front wheel but you don't need to get if off the ground to do so. You can reach about 2/3 of the circumference, then just roll the bike forward/backward a bit to clean the last 1/3. Unless you are doing wheel removal the use of a front stand isn't necessary for general maintenance. That's why I asked the question.

Haha, I do realise that my friend, however I like to be able to spin my wheels and check for the onset of brake binding too. Comes from owning older bikes. Surprising how handy the paddock stands and steel bars are for things like chain lubing etc. No chance of the bike slipping off the stand at the rear or a set of rubber coated cups slipping along the swingarm and marking the paint (been there, done that!).
If we were all the same life would be boring mate.

Anyway, why not just jack it up with some wood under the headers while on the ABBA stand? Hey buddy, I was wondering that, but is it safe?!? With 80 lbs on the front tire while on the stand, it must be well over 100 that much closer to the swingarm pivot. I was thinking of making a hole on a piece of 2x4 so it rests on the 2 headers (before each one splits into 2), and also on the GoldPlug drain plug, which protrudes below the headers slightly. Your method is a great idea, but my bike has the front axle sliders, so need an easier way. Was also thinking about sliding a piece of 2x4 into the engine, where the bottom oil cooler bracket bolts into, but if the headers are strong enough, it'd be awesome. Have you personally done it? I don't want to be the guinea pig. Ha ha. And yes, I don't really need a stand right now, since I only have 419 miles on the bike, but hope to pile them quickly soon. And like Exuptoy said, it's a nuisance having to push the bike around to clean the front wheel, especially on the left side (side stand makes it harder). I also like to check brakes are not sticking, and rubbing the rotors equally. |

Yes, I have jacked many of my bikes up with a car jack and a block wood under the headers. It’s not like trying to lift the whole weight of the bike as it pivots around the spindle. Put the bike on the stand and try to lift it up at the front wheel, your not lifting all the weight as the stand is carrying the majority with it being closer to the middle.

ABBA used to do a quick lift jack stand purely to do this at the header. They have now duscontibued it after making the front lift kit. You can see from their video below that it’s not a struggle.
