Like many here, I like to strive for perfection when it comes to my vehicles, and would like to check my chain alignment. And it'd be just once, since I'd mark the swingarm after that, and wouldn't need it ever again. That's why I refuse to buy an expensive laser unit, but they're the best. If somebody wanted to rent one, it'd be awesome. But since that's unlikely, I want to buy a cheap but effective one, like the MotionPro. However, I doubt it'd fit our bike, since the top chain guard requires wheel removal to take it out, and with that weird protective ring don't think the typical chain tools would fit at the bottom of the sprocket. And that's precisely the reason for this thread. If you have a chain tool that works, please post details so others and myself can order it knowing it'd work. Many thanks. JC

I have the MotionPro and I am able to fit it under the chain guard... barely. It's not ideal and a bit of a PITA, but I'm too lazy to mess with removing the guard. I can try and snap a photo tonight if you are curious.

That's the tool I use, works well. I use it on all 4 of the bikes in my garage.

Yup, that's the one I own. I'll try and get a pic today, otherwise it might be a few days. Once it's on there, it's solid. I just installed some Lightech chain adjusters so alignment isn't as much of a worry but they're definitely not for budget-minded individual.

Here you go.... It fits on just fine under the chain guard and the guard itself is flimsy enough to pull to the side to check alignment. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the picture. You had to bend that thing pretty badly; that's what I was trying to avoid. At least I know it can be done, but I'll try from the bottom first. Thanks again.

Took my belt guard off. Cleaner look for sure. Hey, no extra mess with the chain exposed? Noticed the end of the guard was full of crud (about the last inch), but the rest of the guard seems useless indeed. But you had to remove the freaking wheel to remove it, right? I see no way to remove that hex bolt right next to the chain. Hopefully there's a way. He he. Since I'm not going to lube my chain the normal way (by spraying it directly), I'm probably going to remove it too, especially if no need to remove the rear wheel. Otherwise, might wait until a tire change. Will lube the chain by spraying a rag and then putting it on the chain, to avoid any excess, which is what flings out. Thx.

I’m using that DuPont Stuff that doesn’t sling off. I posted a pic of the can in another thread here. I removed mine with the wheel still on. Used a regular metric L shaped Allen wrench. It was hard to turn cause yamaha uses red loctite on it.

Took my belt guard off. Cleaner look for sure. Hey Clayton. Do you have a pic of the swingarm with the chain guard off. I'm considering pulling the wheel to get at that one bolt. As you know the guard is taped to the swingarm and I wanted to see what it looks like removed. Thanks! -Mike

Thank you very much for the pic. Since I haven't pulled the rear wheel yet to see how it's put together, it seems you cut the rear part of the chain guard.

So it does not fly everywhere without the chain guard

So it does not fly everywhere without the chain guard This is what I use to clean and lube my chain a couple times a month. The Tirox is no longer available so I started using the DuPont. Iv got 12,500 miles on my chain now.
