I'd hate to have that big, ugly (imo) controller there.

Hi, I've got the OEM ones installed (at the maximum of the 3 settings) and can confirm they are nowhere near as hot as the Oxford ones I have previously used on other bikes. The OEM grips obviously look much better but.... they're just not hot enough IMHO, at least for Scottish temperatures.

I think what'll help is what temperature you guys are using these Heated Grips and determining their usefulness.

I’ve had the Oxford sports installed for a while now. Like all of you, I don’t care about the bulkiness of the controller but with the right placement, I think the pros definitely outweigh the cons. Obviously the “right” placement is a subjective thing, but I am pretty happy with my setup. My first mod after picking up the FZ was the u-bolt Ram mount which came with the 6” arm. I had to place the u-bolt off to the right of the handlebar bolts in order to align the mount itself in middle of the handlebars. I thought the placement of the u-bolt was funky at first, but it all came together when I was looking for a place to mount the fugly Oxford controller. The spacing of the holes on the bracket fit on the backside of the u-bolt perfectly and there are zero clearance issues. I use Waze while commuting so with my phone mounted, the end result is a partially hidden but still accessible controller. At this point, it doesn’t bother me at all. I’ve had a couple of 33 degree mornings (same temp forecasted for this morning) and have been completely happy, aside from not having installed any hand guards yet. The Oxfords heat evenly, and get much warmer than I’ll ever need. They have 5 settings and I’ve never had to go above the third. I also really like the improved grip of the Sports vs stock.

Might be a bit late to the party, but my take on the OEM heaters is that they are nice for city riding when its chilly outside (with winter gloves). On the highway, if you hold on to the bars like you are trying to choke a chicken to death, then in my experience you do get your whole hand warmed up as a relief from the cold, so even if they dont heat your palms like a cozy fireplace, they arent completely useless as they save you from pulling over to warm your hands on your exhaust.
However, if you ride with correct grip on the bars (aka no grip at all, just resting your hands on it), you wont notice that they are even on before you slow down to 40 mph or less, which is when they on maximum heat get as warm as a heated blanket on maximum heat. No burning but definitely hot.
I would really be surprised if Oxfords heated grips wouldnt pass the OEMs when it comes to heating. Personally, i just really dislike the look of the controller and dont like how it ages.
As for the crooked OEM controller, it fits perfectly in the space between the knuckle of your index finger and thumb. It doesnt bother me one bit. If you are going to put a layer of material over the heaters forget about the OEM, they arent warm enough for heating through that.

I have use the Oxford sports grips on my last two bikes and I just love them, nice heat and grips. There was no questions for me, before trading in my Z900 I removed the Oxford and now just installed them on the MT. I did not want them on the handlebars, I have installed a GIVI windshield and by doing so there was one screw that was now unused, fabricated a bracket and voila ! the controller is out of sight. Very happy with this installation.

That looks really good actually. My problem with the oxfords is how ugly they look on the handlebars (personal opinion ofcause).

Thank you ! I just took advantage of the space and free screw that the GIVI gave me. But you can do this also with the OEM fairing, just need to fabricate a bracket that will pick-up the existing plastic tab in the fairing that is going thru the rubber grommet and I would had a double sided tape just to be sure.

That's a good point. i just went ahead and bent the bracket to install it, but this wouldn't work without bar-end mirrors. fabricating a mount is a more viable long term strategy. Let me know what you come up with and whether or not you're interested in selling one. I just purchased the Oxford Touring size grip. Couple of questions for you. Did you have to trim the grip at all? Did you mount the controller to where your stock mirrors were located? (I also have the CRG arrow bar end mirrors). And the last question, how do you like those levers? I was hoping to tape the controller out of sight but I can't find a good spot . I'll probably install the grips this coming weekend.

I didn't have to trim the grips at all, but I got the sport grips rather than the touring ones. If the OEM mirrors were on there I would not have been able to place the controller there. I did have to bend the bracket. The levers are great but I haven't noticed much of a difference between them and any other shorty levers I've used.

Just installed the Oxford sport grips this past weekend.... not stock bars so can’t really say if they would have needed trimming or not. Just did a long ride today.... hands and fingers felt great.... I have no friggen idea why I waited 16 years to install on my bikes. Did both the 03 FJR and MT same day and have ridden both in the cold. FJR took the “adventure” model..(a little longer) The sport ones are very grippy.... takes a little getting used to. I used to have a little pain in my palms, didn’t experience it on my 3 hour ride yesterday. Guys...... don’t do what I did and wasted almost 2 decades before getting these..... they truly are fantastic.

I had the Oxfords on my last 2 bikes. Have the OEM ones on my current MT-10. The Oxfords are hotter which I prefer in winter but the OEM ones look better and I haven't had a problem with either.

I never heard of Koso either, but they almost look like OEMs, with their bulge at the right of the grip. Saw others that look fully integrated, with a tiny button to activate them, and a miniature LED to indicate setting level (4, I think). Forgot which brand they are, since I don't plan to ever install them, but I'd look for that thread somewhere here. If I had to go either OEM or Koso, I'd probably choose OEM, just because they should be more reliable, but could be wrong about that. Since I don't like either one, I'd have to risk going with a more 'integrated' design, but that's just me .

Hope the OEM are good enough and reliable Also want the more integrated looks compared to, for example, Oxfords

25 years of 365 riding and my only recommendation for keeping hands warm are heated gloves.
I find grips only useful to take the edge off in those early spring mornings and the like.
Gloves will give you 360° warmth all over your hands and not just the palms. It gets right to the finger and thumbs tips too.
Easy to wire in and you can even get battery ones that last hours.
Personal recommendation is the Gerbing XSR12.

Could it be the Daytona Street you have seen? Yep. Those are exactly the ones I was referring to . Not only they look better, but grip surface is not compromised, like with the others.
