For my first post, I'll pose a question. Would it be worth my while to push my 2007 FZ1 to the side (or make it primarily a track bike) for a FZ10? I realize the opinions will be biased in this forum, but would like to hear from Gen2 FZ1 owners.
The FZ1 has all the performance bolt-ons and a full FZ1N conversion as well as upgraded suspension and brakes. Mods: Yoshimura full exhaust, -1fr+1rr, 520 chain conversion, air box mod/BMC filter, Ivans flies and ECU flash, Power Commander, Graves stacks, Gilles rearsets, AK20 cartridges in R1 forks, Penske shock, MotionPro throttle, Brembo master.

Just sold my 2nd 2007 FZ1. I absolutely loved that bike. Never put the money into like you did, though. My track bike got all the mods. My FZ1 was set up for commute: tall windscreen, heated grips, comfortable seat, etc....
Anyway, to answer your question: F* yes it is. The FZ-10 is magnificent. For me the FZ1 was very confidence inspiring, almost to a fault. And at the same time it was comfortable and easy to ride. That was my biggest concern with the FZ-10, would I be losing that? I'm happy to report the FZ-10 is even more confidence inspiring and way more fun to ride and at the same time more comfortable than the FZ1. The motor is a beast and I haven't even flashed it yet. The power band is intoxicating and the engine noise is just down right sexy. It's sounds like a V8 super car.
Your FZ1 is probably a completely different animal than mine was so YRMV. But I don't miss my FZ1 at all.

I was hoping to hear from you. I'm trying to find a place that will allow test rides, but it's proving difficult. I guess if I like the 10 enough, I'll start doing trades+cash for my aftermarket goodies then sell the FZ1 as stock-ish.

I guess if I like the 10 enough, I'll start doing trades+cash for my aftermarket goodies then sell the FZ1 as stock-ish. That's what I always do. Put it back to OEM and sell the aftermarket bits separately. I've come out ahead doing this on several occasions. (buy used bikes with lots of aftermarket stuff) I took a big gamble on the 10 and just bought it w/o the benefit of a test ride. I saw it at WSBK then I saw that 1st video review and I knew exactly what the guy was talking about. Turned out better than I had hoped for. It's a ridiculously competent package. I can't even imagine what it's going to be like after the re-flash Can you post some pics of your FZ1? I would love to see that beast. I'll always be a huge fan of that bike. Questions: Did the R1 front end change the geometry? How was the front end feel compared to the stock FZ1? Can you fit the Brembo master on the FZ-10 or will it mess with the ABS?

The Brembo master would definitely go on a new bike. I mainly bought the R1 forks for asthetics and the ability to use a fork stand. No geometry change. I sent them to Traxxion before ever installing. I'll get photos up.

Nice bike, Bud.
My 1st FZ1 was the black one. Totaled it.
The R1 forks don't just look better, they are far better than the oem FZ1 forks. More adjustable, better performing, stiffer and they accommodate radial mount calipers.
Get the FZ-10, you won't be dissapointed.

How much better the R1 forks were in stock form was pretty much moot in my case; all the internals were getting replaced anyway. That's one reason I'm hesitant to upgrade bikes. I can keep the AK20 cartridges, but I'd have to get a new shock ($800-1000, depending). Like I mentioned, I could get some money back by trading my parts for stock+cash, but I can't value my used stuff for new price either. Getting to try out a 10 will make the decision.

Found a place that allows test rides, but they haven't gotten an FZ10 yet.

Look for a used FZ1 OEM shock on ebay...maybe forks too. Then you can sell the good stuff for more $$$.

I'll do that for the shock. Not really concerned with the forks; I'll have the AK20 cartridges replaced by factory for use in a track bike.

why fz10 over fz1 ? cuz its ten time better than one. joking aside. that's what I did. had a fz1 2002 for 4 years and just very recently was lucky enough to pick up a fz10. not going back... the electronics alone are worth the upgrade. head turning looks happen very often ( esp with neon wheels) and power delivery is smooth and torquee. oh and cruise control

The FZ-10 motor is amazing. Electronics, handling, everything. Something else the FZ1 lacked in my opinion...character. The FZ-10 has it in spades.
