At 160 lbs in my underwear (suited up quite a bit more than that), the bike felt quite harsh on bumps, and I like firm suspension settings. It was worse at the rear (typical), but rear tire was inflated to 42. Reduced it to 36/36, since I’ll never carry a passenger, but haven’t used the bike again, and won’t do it until 2 more weeks. I’ll probably check all settings later today (to verify they’re at the default values). But hopefully some of you can save me some fiddling time, especially with so many adjustments. Bike definitely feels ‘unbalanced’ now, with the rear stiffer, but wonder if 42 vs 36 PSI was most of the reason. The only adjustment I can’t ‘reset’ is rear preload, which has 6 threads showing (from the top, obviously). All others will be bottomed out to count ‘clicks’, and go from there. And yes, might have to do careful sag measurements if can’t make bike to feel right, but I’ve never needed to mess with the suspension before, since I’m exactly the typical target weight, and I like the ride firm. And would need help, but have heard setting sag doesn’t necessarily make the bike feel right since front and rear suspensions are quite different (comments on that welcome too). My last 3 bikes had fully adjustable electronic suspension, which was awesome, since I only cranked it hard in the twisties, but soft to medium everywhere else. Have to find a happy compromise with this one. Thanks.

Have to find a happy compromise with this one. Thanks. I weigh 145 lbs and really struggled with the shock for a few hundred miles when my bike was new. I was carrying the tools with me so adjustments could be made when I felt like. For me I found the rear was riding low so about one turn of preload fixed that and I remember doing several measurements before finding the sweet spot. I also found that the lower rebound adjuster makes the most difference when turned a few clicks either way. My advice would be to start adjusting and remember preload (sag) must be done first. Trust me, there is a great shock in there somewhere you just need to find it..

Hey Fastback89, do you have final settings? I just bottomed out all suspension settings, and all were exactly as stated on the manual (default). I find hard to believe the rear was soft, but will ask my wife to measure sag even if it's just a ball park. Rear feels hard as hell, but maybe it could be very little compression damping (feels hard with bumps), so need to at least change that. I'm also debating if I should lower tire pressures to 32 at both ends. Right now they're at 36, but not even my 5+ ton truck has that (35 all around). I think 32 should be perfect for my 160 weight and never a passenger or luggage. Thx.

I do not remember the final settings, sorry. I remember feeling the same harshness that you have mentioned. I also remember sag being quite a lot at least on my bike. I think at least on my bike that the shock was riding way lower than normal. Since you have the base line settings, I would back off all damping settings 2 clicks and try it. Just check sag first..

Thanks guys. Based on input from several riders, decided on the settings stated below as a base line, and go from there. I don't quite believe in equal sag, so not that relevant to me, but that's just me. My bike feels rock hard at the rear. However, when I sit, the front doesn't seem to move; only the back, so won't touch the rear preload for now (will lower the front a little though, to try to equal them), but need to change the other settings. Here's what I'll do right now: FRONT: PREL= 7 out of 15 (stock 9); REB= 8 out of 14 (stock 6); COMP= 19 out of 23 (stock 17). REAR: PREL= stock; REB= 13 out of 23 (stock 11); F COMP= 4 out of 5.5 (stock 3); S COMP= 14 out of 18 (stock 12). TIRE PRESSURES: F=32; R=36. Had them at 36/36, but since it's only me, will use 32/36. That should also give better grip, especially important now that it'll start getting cold (for better footprint). Have my 5+ ton truck at 35, so 36 just for my 160# frame seems still excessive. Hope bike feels better that way. Will come back to comment. The real test will come when I tackle the twisties aggressively (the way I like), so don't want to soften the bike too much. I like it firm, but it's a little too much as it is, especially at the rear. We'll see how it feels after the above changes. Thanks to all for your replies .
