I've never seen this discussed, but hope somebody else thought of that before me. He he. The stock tail is not bad, but looks awful with that stupid metal extension. Looking at the 4 bolts both at the bike and at the tail, I'm 95% the bolts have the same pattern (wider towards the front, narrower towards the rear). I'll confirm that (if needed) after picking up the bike on Tuesday, but what I know for sure is it won't fit right off the bat. It'd hit the taillight, so it needs spacers. And THAT is what I'm trying to find help, so I don't have to look for them all over the place, and maybe unsuccessfully. I want it stock looking, so washers, or any other haf-a$$ approach is a no-no for this anal guy . I want black spacers, and I think they should be of about 1/2". If nobody has tried it, but know where to find plastic/nylon spacers of about the size of the stock bolts, I'd greatly appreciate help with that. Many thanks. Otherwise, which is the most OEM looking 'tail tidy' for this bike? Thanks again. JC

I do remember someone rejigging the stock unit and making it less obnoxious looking, but I don't know if it was this site or another one. You might want to do a search, I think it was almost two years ago I saw it.
The two most popular FE's are the Vagabond and the Yoshimura, both have positives and negatives. Both use the stock turn signals and both reuse the stock flip cap over the seat lock. The Vagabond is cheaper.

Thanks guys. Just got the bike. Yeeeeeehaaaaa!!! And with 0 miles, at that. Bike it at my house now (with 8), and will try to adapt the tail tonight. Will report results. There's a chance no spacer is needed, since a plastic part under the taillight seems independent of the spoiler, so we'll see. That part seems unnecessary without the stock extension. Will post my impressions and results. Thanks anyway.

Took new bike apart this evening, and stock tail piece can’t be made into a nice tail tidy, so had to abort project. It was almost obvious, or there wouldn’t be aftermarket ones. But at least I tried. He he. Thanks anyway. Now have to research Yoshi vs the other.

Hey, that's not a tidy buddy; you left the ugly appendage. Ha ha. Just installed the Vagabond. It fits pretty good, although I have to say I was expecting a better seam on the turn-signal piece. It looks ugly, but at least it's not highly visible. I ended up cutting the key cover at 4", not 3.75, and it fit perfectly, since I routed the wires further to the back, and it covered everything like stock. I also cut a squared notch where the tab goes, since you can't tighten it all the way down without deforming the plastic piece. And with the notch, the tab sits touching the entire surface, instead of just the top of the sloping plastic, pushing it backward. Perfect fit. All in all, pleased with the look. By the way, will use 2 of the 4 leftover spacers from the stock unit that will go to the trash. That way, the already steep angle of the plate won't be even more, due to the rubber stops at the bottom of the eliminator. The spacers are exactly the size of the rubber, so plate will be at the same angle as the eliminator, rather than steeper. You could remove the rubber pads too, but I like it better with the spacers. Will check how it looks better when I register the bike tomorrow, plate on hand.

i made this the other day with left over materials I had in my garage. I cut a 2.5 in Square aluminum fence post to make 2 right angle brackets. Super sturdy and lightweight. Then just bolted it into the factory holes once removing everything.

Hey! I know this thread is old but I did just that and modified the stock one to be cleaner etc. I can post pics if there are others that are interested . New to the site so have to try post some. Can’t from the phone. Anyone care to see the results and how I did it? Peter

I bought the J-TECH one in the UK from eBay for £25 which is around $32 I think. It keeps the angled brace piece but loses the bottom ugly bit and still allows you to keep the lock cover. Hey, that's a great alternative for those who want to use bags (like the SW-Motech Blazes)... although I'm obviously not 100% sure they would fit. But they should, since I remember the turn-signals not clearing the bags by an inch or two, and they're further back with your kit. By the way, at least my Vagabond unit also keeps the lock cover... but you have to cut it to fit. HeyAvvmann, go ahead and post your modification for others to consider it . Thanks.

That numberplate (tag?) is also only 7x5” so it is substantially narrower.
