Looking at the production date and VIN I just realized I have one of the first 100 FZ-10's made. Luckily here in CA we get "first dibs" on new Japanese bikes entering North America. Mine is May 2016 (2017 MY), last 6 of VIN 000052
Who else has an early FZ? Check in!

Mine is an 08/16, VIN 000559. These VIN's relate to US imports, the bike was sold in Europe for almost a year before it got to the US so plenty were made prior to the US ones.

the bike was sold in Europe for almost a year before it got to the US so plenty were made prior to the US ones. Incorrect. Quoted directly from Yamaha "IWATA, November 17, 2015—Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo:7272) announced today plans to launch the MT-10 in Europe at the end of May 2016." It was released here in the states several months later as a 2017 MY, I believe August 2016. Regardless, that's also why I specified FZ-10 and didn't say MT/FZ-10. Anyway, I'm not saying my bike is "special" (well it is to me) I just thought it would be interesting to see who has early production bikes.

Well, mine is one of the first 1,598 made. Ha ha. Less issues to worry about, although I have to say, I'm mighty impressed with the lack of issues of any kind on these bikes. I only knew about an ECU reflash to cure a fault with the sidestand switch if engine was started too quickly, or something like that. It wasn't even the sidestand switch, like I thought. Really proud of Yamaha. Nowadays, vehicle manufacturers use customers as beta-testers, especially with motorcycles, which are not considered main transportation here. Mine is noisier than I'd like when hot, specifically the chain/tensioner. It's not the typical valvetrain noise. But won't be disappointed until I change the oil, and see what happens. The good news is it doesn't sound worrisome; just annoying on a new machine. But what an awesome machine for 10 grand (that's what I paid with 0 miles. Plus TTL) .

I have 000010 since july 2016. Is this a Canadian model? Because my Ca model FZ10 is number 10.

I wouldn't want the first of ANY vehicle, I'd want the last as that when all issues are resolved and they tend to stick all the extras on before they release a new model.
My bro in law used to work for Vauxhall in the UK and said he would never buy a new vehicle as they always had recall work, and the issues would come in the form of the dealer updates where they'd actually sort unknown (to the customers) issues if the problem wasn't serious enough for the manufacturer to issue official recall notices.
I realise cars aren't the same as bikes but as said earlier, a lot of manufacturers these days get the end user to test the product!

I realise cars aren't the same as bikes but as said earlier, a lot of manufacturers these days get the end user to test the product!I'm going on a limb here, and say ALL vehicle manufacturers do that brother . At least the ones that are public, which are the great majority. Unfortunately, for those, profits are the #1 priority, as well as #2 and #3. Ha ha. The only difference is some manufacturers are worse than others. It's always cheaper to use customers as beta-testers, than the R&D needed to do things right the first time. And what typically happens, is after the first few years it takes for them to solve the main issues, they then start changing suppliers to save more money, and BAM!, sometimes exactly the same problem they initially had, or new ones. It never ends. It's just a matter of luck, but yes, the first couple of years are a no-no. I was really surprised how little problems the FZ-10 had, probably due to the fact it was the second year of production in Europe, but still, impressive. The only documented issue for the first few hundred was an ECU reprogramming to fix a possible sidestand error when not turning the ignition to ON quick enough. And now we learned of 2 engine failures, but it could have been external factors owners didn't mention on a public forum (for obvious reasons), like a bad tune; impossible to know. Or improper break-in, a bad oil filter, wrong oil, or a legitimate factory defect too. At any rate, only 2 failures out of maybe 3K units (my 2017 is 1,598, so maybe more than 3K by now) so far is still a heck of a record. Finally, bikes are typically less regulated, since they're considered recreational, but they might have a better reliability record than cars, probably due to being much less complex than a car. Curious about that, now that you touched the subject. Ha ha.

Not for all , japanese are prone to do extended final tests , if you are talking about , KTM ,BMW , Ducati , Triumph yes you are right final customers are 75% also final testers.
