hi everyone, about to replace my sec gen fz1 with either a 17 grey or 18 blue. does the 18 models have the quick shifter installed? what about hp restrictions between 17 and 18? Will a servo eliminator work thats off a second gen fz plug seems the same
thanks

One color difference (Blue) QS now standard, changed the organization of the throttle settings.. Otherwise no other changes I can see. The Yamaha web page has an area that lists "What's New For 2018"
I don't remember any HP restrictions. Wouldn't be enough for me to get a 18 over a really discounted 17 unless you absolutely want a blue bike. The QS upgrade is inexpensive and easy to do yourself.

I have an 18. I prefer the blue bike but it's obviously not a huge deal. The tank isn't even blue like it is on euro models, which I prefer.
The qs is stock. The fuel maps were renamed as stated above, but the same ~130hp restrictions exist across both models in the US. A flash will take care of the restriction on either.

The grey 2018 is also different. It's a lot darker, and the paint is all matte. Looks killer! Here's my 18

It depends on what you like. Some people like matte finishes, some don't, some like the fluro wheels, some don't, some like the blue/black scheme, some don't. Mechanically there isn't anything to choose between the two except the '18 model has the QS as standard, but it is an easy install on the '17. Take your pick.

I saw a blue in the flesh, and almost threw up. Ha ha. So an absolute deal-breaker for me, but that's why there're colors for everyone. I don't particularly like the gray/yellow, so I'd only get a black. And the problem is only '17s have them. Searched everywhere, but seems like I missed all the good deals. All other leftovers I found dealers want '18 money for it. And in many cases, actually more than I could buy an '18 for. It's ridiculous. I'm starting to doubt I'd get an FZ-10 now. Not going to overpay for one. Will try next week, but will look for other options after that. Was looking at the Triumph Street Triple RS, but too many issues so I discarded it. Will have to look for something else. Oh, forgot to say the '17s have a side-stand connector recall (unable to ride motorcycle because it thinks sidestand is deployed), so if you buy one, make sure it has it done, so you don't have to go back. Or left stranded and find out the hard way about it .

Was set on a tuono rr, nearest dealer is an hour and a half away and they have their "quirks". Leftover cb1000r was also an option too. The look of the fz is growing on me, blue makes it alot easier.
Back to my question in the original post, are the servo eliminators the same for the fz1 fz10 ?

Or left stranded and find out the hard way about it . There were a small number of early 17's with this issue that required a reflash of the ECU , no big deal. But it never stranded the rider, it would always start, but you did get a CEL. To the OP, I suspect the servo buddy is the same between the FZ1 and FZ-10.

Good to hear; thank you for the clarification. I'm running out of options. Made a last ditch effort for the local dealer to reconsider their ridiculous price on an old '17, and will hear from them tomorrow. If unsuccessful (most likely), I guess that'd be the end of the road for an FZ-10 for me. Don't think will consider again the Street Triple RS due to all of its current issues. If the old Honda CB1000Rs had ABS, that'd be the next in line, but I drew the line with at least regular ABS (I initially wanted cornering ABS/TC, but too expensive). Don't like the supposed competitors of the FZ, like the Kawasaki and Suzuki. And wanted something different than a regular I-4, since I couldn't stand the (high-frequency) vibrations, and want something with more 'character'. A crossplane 4, triple, or V-twin. The FZ-09 is just too cheaply made (like an SV650). And I don't like it either. I'd be fine with an SV650 with premium hardware, but unfortunately, every freaking manufacturer only puts better components on their biggest bikes. Hopefully they'll learn there're older riders who don't care for a freaking 1000 bike to get quality components and safety. It took forever for auto manufacturers to realize that, and now you can find small cars much better equipped than before. Oh well. If any of you have a recommendation if the FZ-10 doesn't pan out, I'd greatly appreciate it .

Here is something a bit out of the box....Kawasaki Z900RS, a semi retro throwback to the classic Z-1 from the 1970's. It's a sharp looker, especially in the candy brown/orange iteration. Probably not as sporting as the MT-10 but specs and reviews have been excellent (has ABS). If I was in the market to replace the -10 this one would be worth a look.

I had a 2015 FJ-09 which is what the Tracer 900 is based upon. I had the FJ-09 for 3 years and it was bullet proof, comfortable and it had that 847cc inline triple that is happy in any gear. So why did I trade it for a 2017 FZ-10? I just wanted something different. There was absolutely NOTHING wrong with the FJ. Had I not traded for the FZ-10 I would have waited for the Tracer 900 GT.
