Hello all,
Virginian dropped off his old FZ10 into my custody last Monday. His build thread details some of the tasteful mods he has done.
Glad to be upright! Took it out on a run to Charlottesville last weekend and was dead chuffed.
On the to-do though - the mirrors are terrible. You see shoulder only! As I'm on business at the mo away from the bike, what size are the bars? I believe I've read they're 7/8" but the ends are threaded. Can one simply use the expanding plug type mirror mount?
And definitely have to pull the bars back an inch or two
Cheers!

Ends are threaded. Initially I had got the expanding type of bar inserts. I was concerned with the damage they might do to the threads just in case I wanted to revert back to stock (which I eventually did) and I was also concerned with the weight loss of the stock bar ends which are weighted to help reduce vibration.
Eventually I went with the rhino bar ends and got some CRG mirrors. Very expensive. I eventually returned back to stock because even with the folding mirrors, they were a pain in the ass for lane splitting as they would push in on my hands when I would fold them, causing me to not be as smooth with brake and throttle.
Just some things to consider. Welcome to the forum!!!

Thankfully lane splitting isn't on the cards - it's citable as 'reckless driving' (a CLASS 1 misdemeanor!) in VA.
God bless the Commonwealth.

I'm lucky I haven't gotten a reckless on this thing. I do split as soon as I cross over into the district though.

I do agree the stock mirrors block out about half of the mirror's view so their suitability depends somewhat on where you ride and your own physical dimensions. I'm out on the open road and don't have to pay as much attention in what's behind me (usually nothing) compared to city driving where you have to keep an eye out for people creeping up behind you. Compared to other bikes, and even past Yamaha machines, the -10 mirrors look pretty good. They have relatively short stalks and the shape is attractive compared to some of the large 'rabbit ears' you often see (like the predecessor FZ1). I've thought about the bar end mirrors (CRG and Rhino setup) but came to the conclusion I didn't want the extra width, and having to look further down and over to check the rear view, plus the $250 or so for the materials. Everybody's situation and preference is different.
Another option is mirror extenders, SW-Motech has a set that extends them out 40mm (about 1.6"), this might provide enough widening so you aren't always looking at your shoulders. Cheaper then CRG mirrors and the mounts. The reviews on the Revzilla sight seem to be good, and SW-Motech stuff is well made and fits right.

Hello! Been on business travel a ton recently and forgot to reply. I eventually broke down and bought the CRG + Rhinomoto set up. The way I see it is it's a small investment for skirting away from the semi bearing down on me at a stop light.
I have a few more mods in the works, I'll begin a thread when it's due time

Welcome!
I bought some extenders for my mirrors to keep a somewhat stock look.
Didn't get them from ebay but these are the same style.

Thanks for that - if I ditch the CRGs then I'll take note of those!
Traveling too much to even get a look in edgeways to the garage! The parts-to-fit box is growing
