Hey gang, looks like if I want an MT-10, would have to buy a 2017 leftover. Didn't want to do that, but it's either that or a 2018 Street Triple RS. Wanted an 18 MT-10 too, not only for the factory quick-shifter (at the same price), but to have a more reliable bike, with 1 more year to fix any issues (like the left switch recall). Oh, and less scratches. Dealer wants the same money for his 2017 than a 2018, but no way in hell I'd buy it at list. I want to make a realistic offer, knowing somebody already got that deal. If they accept fine. If not, I'd get the Triumph RS for less money. I'd say it has to be a minimum of 2 grand to make it attractive, but let's see what the gang reports. Thank you in advance.

The dealer I got my 17 from in August last year has or had a matte grey/yellow 18 listed for $11,650, same price I paid for my 17, no freight or prep, I know it's a long way from TX to WV, but there are deals out there if you look, Romney Cycle in Romney,WV.

I'm not sure where you live (TX ?) but my dealer in Central TX is selling 2018 MT-10's (both colors) for $11,099 + TTL www.destinationcycle.com/default.asp?page=xNewInventoryDetail&id=4504646&p=1&vc=standard&s=(Sort%20By)&d=D&fr=xNewInventory. You can't force your dealer to sell you a bike at your price but that's where the negotiation skills come into play. Show him what other dealers are selling them for and see if they will match it. Many times they just need a nudge. If that doesn't work you might just have to travel a little to get a good deal, either with a trailer in tow or fly/drive the bike back. Lots of options available, use CycleTrader to see what other dealers are selling them for.
The QS on the 2018 is worth about $150, reliability wasn't an issue on the first year models (2017) but there was a tech bulletin or two to tweak things but no big deal. There is no reason a bike in your dealer's stock should be scratched up unless it was done in a tipover on the premises. That can happen.
I wouldn't get a different bike based on price unless your budget just can't handle the higher priced machine. Get the bike you want for the best price possible, you might just have to spend a little more to get the scooter you want. In the end you'll be happier.

Thank you folks. I live in El Paso, TX. Looked where the hell to put my location to no avail. Mtneer, $11,650 for an '18 back then was an awesome deal. Will call your dealer to see what deal they have now. Many thanks. Nemesis, thank you for that link. Evitzee, the $11,099 price sounds insane... until you see that it does NOT include junk fees man. I'd have to call, but wouldn't doubt another grand. HATE when dealers don't quote their freaking full price, including all they want to tack on. Misleading as hell. And yes, any good negotiator knows what's the dealer cost. With motorcycles, that info is not available on the net, so we have to rely on best prices others have paid, to make a reasonable offer, and THAT is exactly what I'm going to do; take it or leave it. Finally, since there's no clear bike winner, price will decide which one. If the stupid MT had at least a gallon more, I'd get it, but the ridiculous range it has is a huge detraction for me, due to lack of gas stations where I ride. Would have to stop left and right, to have enough range when there's no gas statiaon in-between. Not fun. The RS has almost double the range, is a very charismatic engine too, has the absolute best brakes you can have, top notch suspension too, and everything else except cruise control, which I'd really miss (to shake the vibes), since I wouldn't be able to put a throttlemeister on that bike. The MT also seems to have lower pegs, which I like. Overall is really a toss up. Oh, and that leftover MT is not even serviced yet, but is scratched/scuffed all over from being on the floor forever. All the scuffs on the seat and plastic around I understand how that happened (careless people throwing their legs over the bike), but the scratches on the 'flyscreen' and other parts, must have been deliberately made by aholes (plenty of those here).
Those CA prices on the other thread are insane, but I bet the $9K didn't include junk fees. So will probably make a $10K offer OTD (plus TTL), since somebody bought one for that. If they don't bike, would try out of state plus the cost of shipping. And yes, I looked at CycleTrader, but most prices don't include junk fees, and they're all over the place. No sense of making a hundred calls. That's why I asked for advice here. Will call those few places and find out. And no, no trailer or truck, and no riding bike home thousands of miles either. The most I'm willing to drive and ride back (if my wife accepts, that is) is ALB, which is about 4 hours away. It's in the 100s in this area, so I don't want any more than that either. Ha ha. Good to hear of no mechanical issues with the 17s. Hope everybody had a great weekend.

Yeah, El Paso is in the middle of nowhere, east, west, north and south (forget it). I've been through ELP many times and it is very remote. So you are basically stuck with what the local market will provide unless you want to travel and it seems you don't want to go too far. The link I gave you for $11,099 was in Kerrville, TX which is 500 miles from you (less than 7 hours at 80 mph on I-10) and I've made that trip many times. Drive over on Friday, buy the bike, return on Saturday. Heck, I could do it in one day. The 'junk fees' as you call them are standard I'm afraid....when Yamaha states their list price it does not include freight, setup and, of course, TTL. That's a given, you can be upset at that but that is the way the world works. I doubt you will get one for $10k plus TTL but you can try. If MPG is a key factor for you the MT may not be the bike for you as you will be stopping for fuel at 125 miles, tops. If it is a tossup for you and if you can get a better deal on the Triumph than maybe that is the way to go. In any event good luck with whatever way you go. We are only trying to help.
Here's a link that shows dealer prices.....there really isn't all that much profit for a dealer on new bikes. Like cars they make their money on service, finance and used bikes. www.seedealercost.com/products/model-options/index/id/31656/productCategorySlug/powersports

Again, you're misinterpreting my statements. It's not about MPG man (I own a twin turbo V8 car), but RANGE, RANGE, RANGE. I wouldn't care if the damn thing gave 10 MPG, as long as I had enough range. And on the junk fees, I fully understand 'that's the way the world works', but they just need to be INCLUDED IN THE PRICING. Car delers don't charge for tires separately, do they? The frustration with that is dealers mislead people with that. I called 3, and one charged nothing, the next $145, and the third $1,000 over their advertised 'OTD price'. So only one was truthful. The third was insulting. I'm not saying they don't have the right to charge whatever the hell they want; just put it in your freaking price. It's a waste of time for everybody. And finally, I also said I don't have a truck or tow vehicle, so I can't drive 500 miles and come back with a freaking bike. And flying and riding home would erase any savings. Hope you got my points this time .

I know range is your issue (and that's related to MPG), it's an issue for a lot of people. Yes, I got your points 'this time' although I didn't think I missed them the first time. Good luck on your local purchase, sometimes it sucks to be in an area with restricted options. That's life.

Waited for the dealer to come my way and they let me know they had the 10 for more than 600 days (by the time of purchase I found my own financing saving some apr % and was 700 days old). Final OTD price at procaliber in Vancouver Washington was $10,900 all fees and set up included. I was patient and they responded and got rid of an old bike. They still have one more that was a bit newer. 2017 FZ-10

I think $10,900 (+TTL) is pretty good. I offered $11,499 for a crated 2018, but don't think they'll take it, since salesman just left a message to call. They have a 2017 too, but it's scratched/scuffed everywhere, and don't want that one. Will hear from them tomorrow. We'll see. Somebody posted a 2017 with 900 miles and a bunch of extras but it's in ATL. If I was local, I'd probably jump on that one if it checked out like new, as advertised. Hate dealing with freaking salesmen, but it's part of the 'experience'. He he.

To update my posts, just bought a leftover black 2017 with 0 miles for $10,000.00 out the door (MSO on hand) in NM. I’m going to pay my registration in TX. By the way, the MSO says 148HP, not 135, like some reported for the US. Wonder what’s the deal.
