Need advice on options and approx. cost for shipping a complete engine? Please share info if you've shipped one before (or an item of similar weight)? Thank you

Check out Fastenal. I had a plate steel bumper for my truck shipped on a pallet to a local Fastenal store. The guys forklifted it into my truck bed and I was on my way. www.fastenal.com/en/22/3pl-(third-party-logistics)I've had friends use sites to find private carriers that post their routes and available space. I'm not familiar with those so I only know about it in concept.

You have lots of options, trucking companies abound who handle large, heavy shipments. Just do a search in your area for trucking companies and then do some calling to see what they can do for you.
I had a 140 lb McIntosh amplifier shipped to me a few years ago, no problem. And last year I had a 300 lb pinball machine shipped to me with no issues, RLCarriers.com rolled an 18 wheeler up to my driveway and the driver unloaded the box from the trailer, put it on a dolly and rolled it into my garage. The important thing is you have to have these items strapped to a pallet to facilitate handling in transit and to prevent them from being overturned, put on their side and otherwise mishandled during transit.
