Hello all
I am wanting to remove my cat for the added power but where i live the added noise can be quite problematic and honestly, i don't want to be heard coming hot from half a mile away. Currently, i have the Akra slip on and i am fine with the sound volume.
I was wondering if anyone has checked what exactly is inside the cat box and if it is possible to cut out the cat and leave the labyrinth as sound deadening. I have seen this done on other bikes but not on the MT/FZ
Another possibility, if it was just the cat doing the noise deadening, could be to make a mid pipe with a small high flow cat in place so that we don't pollute and still get a better sound and performance.
Thanks

I think there's a thread on here about a member who drilled all that stuff out so I know it's doable. Try searching for it or I'll try to find it in the morning. Heading to bed now.
I always thought the muffler would have more to do with sound buffering than anything. Also, these exhausts and their ECUs are so specific with variables such as back pressure and other variables, you may actually reduce power without a tune. Just some food for thought.

fz10.org/thread/1370/stock-cats-remove?page=1&scrollTo=10130 . The UK MT-10 site with a lot more info on removing the cats from the original box is gone. Edit: Forgot to mention, inside the 10- cat box is an empty chamber when you remove the cats .... Unlike some cat boxes that have pipe work/type of baffle. in my opinion its not to loud, but everybody has their own view on noise levels, certainly not as noisy as aftermarket decat pipes i have heard on other MT-10'S.

With 135 hp at the rear wheel and the ability to wheelie all over the place do you really need more power?

If my FZ-10 isn’t fast enough, it has WAY more to do with my riding skills/ability than with the machine. The machine is vastly more capable than I am (as a typical/average rider). ;-) I’ll make changes to my FZ-10 for the sake of cosmetic and comfort preferences. When it comes to how fast it is, I’m going to take some skills courses to adjust that.

With 135 hp at the rear wheel and the ability to wheelie all over the place do you really need more power? YES.......even if I almost never use it! Always nice to have "a little extra in reserve"!!

Always nice to have "a little extra in reserve"!! i i try to use all 135 as often as i can. Even more since mine is a MT instead of capped FZ. Specially big tracks tend to dwarf bike engines.

Thanks I did the cat gut also. Just couldn't get past the deafening noise with the stock can and mid pipe. Once I drilled out the honeycomb I ended up with the Graves shorty which makes the sound much deeper compared to stock and I have achieved the sound I wanted. I do have the 2WDW flash, so EXUP is open and no AIS. The only frustrating part fo rme is that I did put on a some Titanium R1 headers which are bluing up nicely but make the SS look worse. I had considered some titanium high heat paint for the cat and connector pipe ahead of the Graves can (which is also titanium). Oh and I also did not like the empty belly look of a mid pipe and always was on the hunt on bracketing that would allow me to re-use the stock heat shields. Now with the cat gut I can leave the full stock look.

True enough 135ish rear wheel power is enough....HOWEVER can we really ever have too much? (assuming it is controllable somehow)
