Rear spring stiffened it right up. It was on when I bought the bike but the difference between mine and the ones I tested is noticeable. A cost effective upgrade over changing the whole shock. Downside is the one I have is purple.

For me it is because i used my bike 40% commute and 60% as canyon carver i have the nitron r2 set with road and track and since the the bike feels different in my opinion the bike turn sharper i used Bridgestone rs10 by the way and the rebound is smoother i think you cant go wrong with upgraded suspension

I installed a K-Tech DDS-lite. The performance was worth the $. It rides really nice. Very plush. Also the shock is black and red so it matches the color scheme of the black 2017 model.

Installed Penske Triple clicker from StoltecMoto. It feels more stable and high speed bumps are a lot less jarring. You still feel the road and cracks but it doesn't beat you up anymore. I paid $ 1,300.

Here's an image of my shock. The Stoltec sticker is worth 0.5 sec per lap

I'm messing with the suspension on my new bike right now, but would like to know what's fundamentally wrong with the stock suspension. My bike has all of 8 miles on the clock (bought it with zero), but that was enough to notice the rear was rock hard, and jarring on any kind of uneven road imperfection. Tires were inflated to 36/42. Haven't used the bike since. What I'll do is reduce tire pressure to 32/36 (I'm 160# and never carry luggage or a passenger). Will lower front PREL from 9 to 7, soften REB from 6 to 8, and soften COMP from 17 to 19. At the rear, leave PREL alone stock, soften REB from 11 to 13, soften F COMP from 3 to 4, and soften S COMP from 12 to 14. And go from there. Never needed to mess with the suspension before, since my weight is right at the target weight of most manufacturers, but this time I needed to. Hope to be able to find a good compromise. I like to tackle the twisties aggressively, so don't want a soft bike, but not a jarring one either. I like and am used to firm suspensions, so hope I can make this bike work without pouring even more money on it (just spend over $2K on mostly cosmetic accessories already, plus the stands and chock). Thanks gang.

I would read through the stoltec build thread on the stoltec board. He discusses the suspension at length and collaborated on the development of one of the springs mentioned a few times in this topic. My understanding is that if you weigh 160 you probably won't have too many issues w/ the OEM spring. Particularly if you're not doing aggressive track riding.

Is it necessary to remove the rear wheel and axle when uninstalling and installing the new shock?
