5 days before Chrismas last year I crashed into a car on the free way. My fault. Insurance didn't pay because I had ea winter clause in which I was only liability insured for 2.5 months. Damage to the bike is significant, €7200. Left fork leg, radiator, steering damper, headlight unit, lower triple clamp with bearings and other stuff had to be replaced. I don't have that in my pocket so I have decided to do a partial repair, with in my view the essential parts, fork leg, radiator, steering damper, triple clamp. Sat with the guy from my local dealers workshop and selected these parts. Also decide to replace some plastic parts, damaged left blue tank cover and a part of the right hand pseudo airintake. Also chose to replace rider foot pegs for grippier Rizoma ones and the oem blinkers for smaller ones. The headlight will not return. The bike will ride. Total repair €3700. The rest I will do myself if possible.I still have oem parts, like levers, mirrors. Other parts I will have to buy new, crash protectors, bar ends (have an after marker handlebar), etc. The bike will look totally different when it is finished, so MT-10 is probably not apropriate anymore. I have made some designs and this is how it will look when it is finished if all goes well. Hope to have finished it before summer this year.

Sorry to hear about the accident, but I'm interested to see how the rebuild turns out.

Old post now but I Just read opening statement where "liability insurance" only is covered for winter months?....bummer! I am just finishing repairs to my own MT-10 insurance total was about $10k but coming in lower via my own labor along with price shopping parts where possible including used as new parts on ebay etc Parts that are not worth refinishing by a shop suddenly ARE worth it when your time is not in the equation lol ...which is fun work anyway! Bike looks like new now! Now for the maiden first test ride since crash and repair! There is however the very real potential problem with DIY and that is with a subsequent claim the insurance company wants you to PROVE all the parts were replaced from previous claims which gets hard to prove on parts painstakingly refinished to new condition ...anyone know how to reset the value and status of a bike such as this? LOL I mean without SELLING it that is...which is a serious consideration otherwise I stand to lose big time on a second accident if insurance downgrades the value by every part I cant prove was replaced or brought to as new spec?? Are there services that verify your vehicle is repaired properly via a certificate?
