I am inches away from buying an FZ-10. But, I wanted to get a sense from actual riders the real world MPG for the bike. I'm going to do normal mountain cornering on the bike but, I also take multi-thousand mile trips and the stated 4.5 gallon or so tank at 30MPG seems like it just doesn't work for that. So, for folks who've done highway riding at 80-90, is 30mpg the real number? Or have you seen something different?

I'll chime in on this but I have been breaking my engine keep the Rpms low but I have been getting 28mpg. Which kinda sucks but I think once it's broken in it'll get better.

Wow. That's atrocious even knowing things will improve slightly once everything is seated. It's not really about the money... I don't want to stop every 100 miles. Had a good trade in offer from a dealer but I'm thinking I will pass. Thanks for the info.

I went on a ride today when I'm cruising in 6th gear around 70 I was averaging between 35-40mpg.. but I went 110 miles and I'm on a quater of a tank.

Best I've done so far is 39mpg...achieved by riding only on the highway at 80mph indicated. Fueled at 140 miles,10 miles into reserve about 3.6 gal.

What rider "profile" are you all using? B, A, Standard?

What rider "profile" are you all using? B, A, Standard? I think Standard is a great start with TC 2 and A mode and TC2. I say this because I come from a Harley's for the last 11 years and Standard Mode instilled the most confidence with this beast. I'm used to everything except the front wheel reaching for the sky so that bit more TC2 control works better for me. My bike is just starting to bed in and jumped in power and attitude. I love this bike and can see a long term relationship but she is a very wicked beast just waiting to rip you apart, limb by limb.

Using all three modes but mostly B, STD at a trackday. I commute daily on it and usually ride like a bat out of hell. I'm getting low 30's

You're seriously considering the bike based on MPG?

Not solely based upon MPG. But, it's a large factor. I've got a track bike. This would be a bike for mountain riding, commuting and then one or two multi-thousand mile trips per year.
So, yeah, if I'm doing a 2000 mile trip riding smaller roads, I don't want to have range anxiety.
I may be asking too much from the bike...it wasn't on my list of options until going into a dealership to try another bike and then riding the FZ-10 by happenstance...a lot more fun.

It sounds like your looking for a good Harley Davidson. I just sold a ripper for this FZ-10. 210 klms to a tank on the FZ-10 and it was a lot of fun. It has a small tank. Someone will bring out a bigger tank in the aftermarket business.

You used STD on the track, what TCS did you use? I was thinking Mode 2, the front does come up so maybe for smoothness it's stage 3 so I can focus on adjusting to the bike, body positioning, line of entry and exit on the corners. The track is Willowbank Raceway or Ipswich Raceway in Queensland , Australia. It is called the paperclip because of it's configuration. It has long fast straights and it's quite wide to allow fast exits.

I didn't have any issues at all at the track, it was great fun. OP: How about an FJ1300 or maybe be patient, I think an FJ-10 is in the works? I double checked today, 31 mpg average and I twist it pretty hard and very often. Too often.

That's interesting that there might be an FJ-10. I rode the FJ-09 also. Quite liked it, but, felt like I ran up against the acceleration wall with the 850 in it....a "10" would probably resolve that.
I've tried the FJR, at least, some older models and felt them ponderous somewhat in corners (I live near Boulder, so, mountain riding is where I am most of the time)....It would certainly address the touring part of how I ride.

Yea, I was hell bent on an FJR1300, then I rode one and I thought it was too heavy. FZ1 fit the bill perfectly and now the FZ-10 has taken it to another level. Agree on the FJ-09... my wife has an FZ-09 and the power is good but I would get bored quick.

What rider "profile" are you all using? B, A, Standard? Usually B on the street, commuting. I used STD on the track and STD and A in the twisties. B can be annoying in low speed situations. It's fun to use STD, get used to it then switch into B and get the crap scared out of you. I like the modes, didn't think I would need them but I find them all very useful.

I did the track day in standard mode and TC 2. It was still very fast and the smoothest setting for the track, I am however still learning to ride it faster and think a Flash over on the bike would improve the A mode and B mode.
