First and foremost, this is my first quick shifter I've ever had so I don't know what a really really good one feels like. With that being said, the FTECU is still really smooth and the shifts seem a lot less clunky. Now onto my main reason for this post. Tips. I was finally able to get the FTECU autoblip and quick shift combo so I figured I'd write a post with some tips that would have been greatly appreciated when I was putting mine on. - First, it's a very easy process and most everything is plug and play aside from having to pull one of the pins out to replace it with the one from the QS harness and needing to pull the little plug connector out of the stock white QS plug.
- Second, make sure you have the QSS input enabled and the autoblip enabled(the code they give you needs to be entered on FTECU's website before all of this) too before you flash the ECU. After you flash the ECU you should see the QS light on on the dash. This is assuming you have the flash kit and are doing the flashing yourself.
- Third, the shift rod the kit comes with is said to be for the stock rear sets but I had the stock shift rod on my Hotbodies MGP rearsets and it felt really good. I ended up shortening the shift rod by one to get it where it was initially. So just be prepared to remove the shift rod two or three times to get it where you want it.
- And lastly, the little modules they give you need to be plugged in right. The one side of the harness has some white tape with info on it and the other is just regular protected wire. One is for the QSS input and the other is the autoblip input. This one is in the instructions that I ended up overlooking and found out after I had done a small test ride and figured out my crap wasn't working right. Switched them and it works great.
Overall it's a awesome product. It even works going from first to second, just not as smooth as other gears. And the autoblip on downshifts is awesome. I just didn't really pay as much attention to the installation as I should have though. All the issues I had were my fault and the guys at FTECU Inc. are really nice too so don't hesitate to give them a call. Here's a picture of how much I cut off the shift rod. It's the section circled in red up to the first line.
