The grey color is now matte. Not a fan of matte finishes but they have a following.
They also fiddled with the D-Mode:
New for 2018:
•Revised D-Mode Mapping 2018 brings refined fuel injection and D-Mode settings. Modes are now numbered, with Mode 1 providing the sharpest throttle response, Mode 2 offering a good all-around character, and Mode 3 offering the smoothest, most progressive throttle response.
Probably the biggest announcement is the 2019 Niken 3 wheeled machine which will hit the road in the 2nd half of 2018. Sure to be an interesting development, and controversial.

I've been waiting for this day to come for months. Sounds like a flash would be as good as getting an 18 as far as 'updates' are concerned. Not sure how much I care about the blue.

I personally think the armor grey looked a lot better than the matte. I am so glad to have the 1 year only armor grey FZ 10. The blue would have been nice if they hadnt two toned it making it look like a bruise. Ha HA.

I agree, the two tone look on both the blue and the matte grey model seems to break up the flow of the lines. They don't look quite as sharp as the 2017's, at least in the pictures.
Looks like Yamaha is still staying with the grey/fluro wheels theme for the MT-10, MT-09, MT-07 as well as a couple of the YZF Supersport models. Personally I like those wheels, very sharp looking in the flesh, imo.

So many stunning bikes going on... and they FINALLY put cruise control on the FJ! ...I mean tracer. This was honestly one of the biggest selling points for me back when I was choosing between the FJ and the 10. I just wish the Yami would bring the tracer 7 over here too; that bike would be sitting right next to the 10 in the garage!

Wished they would have put the silver accents on the blue one like the 2017’s have overseas. Too much black on the blue one. I do like the matte gray better than the gloss grey on the 17’s. Still don’t care for the neon colored wheels. I think they would look so much better with silver wheels. Can anybody photoshop the neon wheels for silver wheels to see what it would look like? As of now looks like I’ll be saving my money for another year and see what colors they will have for 2019.

Why deny yourself the fun and pleasure of the bike for another year because the colors don't quite suit you? Who knows what colors they'll have next year, or the next, or the next. If you don't like the fluro wheels after you buy one then have them powder coated to anything you want, it's not that expensive. In life we never usually get exactly what we want, it's all a trade off.

Tough choice now, a discounted 17 in gray or new 18 in blue.

Doubtful, but I'd love to see the updates available as an upgrade to '17 owners. The numbers of the Dmodes can't change because of our crappy LCD screens, but I'm in dire need of smoother throttle engagement, closer to what my FZ1 was after tuning.

Don't care for the blue one... Love the new grey one,i sometimes think to make a raven/grey hybrid with mine, and now those matte grey parts are very tempting.
Also in Canada the MSRP went up by 700$, what about south of the border?

MSRP is still $13k in the states.
If you're thinking about holding out for the 2019's to see what the colors are, I wouldn't think you're really all that interested in the bike to begin with. None of the available options are over-the-top or offensive. If you don't like the hi-viz wheels, not only can you powder coat them to whatever color you’d like, you could probably tape some really cool patterns on prior to painting there that would leave you w/ custom yellow accents. And I wouldn't recommend it, but if you're really THAT concerned with the colors on the rest of the bike, you can plasti-dip any pieces you want colored differently. That would preserve the OEM paint if you ever re-sell the bike as well.
And lastly, an OEM re-flash of the ECU to remap throttling is an extremely long shot and it's one of my least favorite aspects of auto manufacturers in general. You pay for software that's outdated within a year with no way to update it. To use a phone in my 2015 honda civic, i have to keep an iphone 6 handy for the life of the car, which is an obscene ask for consumers. Like you alluded to, the best solution is probably to flash the ECU (or wait til your warranty expires). Personally, I would like to see a grey 17 next to a blue 18 before committing to whatever I’m going to buy, but I’m leaning towards a blue 18 as soon as I can get ahold of one at the dealer I’m interested in going through.

For me it just cemented the fact that I'm happy waiting until the end of model year sales at the start of 2019 to pick up a 2018 on discount. I can push for a rediculous deal and not feel bad about walking away - those colors just don't do it for me and I'm not paying a premium for something i'm not totally in love with. The colors don't seem that appealing to most people. The local shop is having to replace plastics on their FZ-07's to sell them - nobody want's that blue even on discount.

I was hoping the blue would be different, it seems almost too plain. Either way, kinda cool 17 was the "only" year for the fz10.
