So, I finally got my new FZ past break in, did the first service on it and took it out for a proper thrashing.
I inadvertently activated a feature on the bike I was unaware of, the Y.A.M.S.S. system. Yamaha Automatic Mirror Streamlining System....
I live very near some places that are quite literally out in the middle of nowhere, so at an undisclosed location under controlled conditions, I took my new FZ to top speed in 6th gear and noticed that my mirrors folded in once I got over 130mph. I topped out at 143 indicated, in 6th, at just a hair under 11,500 rpm. Now, I am not a little guy. At 6'4" 270lbs without my gear, I am not fitting behind any little flyscreen. However, I was not happy that the mirrors folded under the pressure, literally.
So, has anyone else seen this? I used to work for one of the big four manufacturers and we saw this problem on one of our sportbikes, and it was subsequently addressed through warranty. Anyone else activating Y.A.M.S.S.? I live about 100 miles from the closest dealer and I don't really want to make a fuss if it is a one off deal. And yes, I will be hitting those speeds fairly regularly at the same undisclosed location, under controlled conditions, of course.
On a positive note, I am VERY happy with the performance of the bike. Much more comfy than my 09 R1, much more flickable than my Super Tenere; it is a good balance between the two. I have a decat and slip on coming and with a little suspension work and a set of Q3+, this thing will be a weapon.

Some locktite and a retorque is what I would do, my mirrors also were a bit loose when I got the bike new.

I added mirror extenders which I highly recommend BTW and they informed me via text message that they where on the verge of foldng in when I was at 155 on a deserted country road. Obvioulsy I couldn't respond to the text message since my phone was in my back pocket but after I reached the bar I was headed to I assured them that if they stayed stable on my various rides I would refrain from removing them and putting them in the extra parts bin I have. They complied.

I just put the AdventureTech mirror extenders on last night and retorqued everything on the mirrors I could find. They are more solid now, but I don't hit that road on my morning commute so further testing is necessary.
For those hitting speeds over 150, mind posting your height and weight?
