Below was my first ride review that I posted on the MT10 Forum after picking up my FZ-10 from the dealership. I thought I would share it here also:
"This will be a very limited first ride review as I only have about 45 miles on the ODO. This is mainly an initial impressions review.
So I pick her up from the dealer last night. Upon ignition she growled at me with an harmonious tone as if to say "come on then, what are you waiting for".
I ensured that I was in Standard Mode and TC 3 before straddling this monster. All geared up and a bit nervous and excited (maybe more than a bit) I hopped on and clicked her into first gear. I started to get her rolling slowly and...STALLED (lol, no one saw that I hoped). "Let's Try that again" I thought. This time I gave her a bit more throttle and she started moving swiftly to the end of the parking lot. At this point I can sense the beast beneath my feet.
As I pulled out of the parking lot (again very swiftly) I kicked her into second gear and rolled on the throttle a bit and HOLY SHIT! The torque is evident. She was clawing and scracthing while she growled and howled at me begging me to open up the throttle and let her out. The sound was remarkable!!
I decided to take it a bit easy on the ride home and rode in higher gears to remain below the 6k mark (Do it by the book I recommend). I did do some rapid acceleration up to 6k on and off for the remainder of the ride. I was going to keep this beast in the cage until first service maybe even up to 1k on the ODO. Her agility really shows when hitting the corners and she runs smoothly (I mean really smooth). I got her home safely and did not want to get off at all but it was a long day at work and I was a bit tired. I parked her up and said "See you tomorrow" (Grin still on my face, even as I type this. And I really haven't experienced the beast yet).
The parts I didn't like...
The SEAT...She started biting me in the ass around the 10 mile mark (Literally!!). The seat is horrendous! Absolutely no comfort to it whatsoever. Definitely the worst part of the ride. The good thing is that when I got home my comfort seat also arrived and THANK GOD! I'm not getting back on it without that seat. If you don't have one and intend on having long rides I recommend getting one ASAP. It's essential IMO!
She's in HEAT...Meaning she throws off a lot of it. It's very noticeable when at a stop light, but when moving its not an issue. At least I'll be warm in colder weather.
The levers aren't COMPLETE...Got to adjust the clutch right away. No play whatsoever (The main reason I stalled I suppose ). This issue is easily rectified with better levers which I will get eventually."

I picked mine up yesterday at the dealer, everything went fine on the purchase, I loaded mine into my truck to haul it home, stopped at a restaurant, I go to the bike to take the keys out and they aren't in the ignition where they were when the salesman and I loaded it on the lift to put in my truck, so I called the salesman sure enough he had taken the keys out and were on his desk, he said he would bring them to me, I was about 25 miles from the dealer when I realized I didn't have any keys, got the keys and headed home. Once home, I sat down and ate, after dinner and beer, my wife helped me roll the bike off the truck and into the garage for the night.
I got up this morning early(on vacation for the week), ran the wiring from the battery to handle bar for my radar detector, my mount is 22mm(7/8") and there wasn't enough room to mount it, so a little dremel work on the mount and a longer bolt thru the clamp, I got it to work. I also ran some Rok straps on the subframe and license bracket for my tool, flat tire repair, and shield cleaning kit bag, mounted up my pack, checked tire pressure, got geared up and headed for my usual quick blast route.
This was my first ride on my new FZ 10, I rode one two times at a Yamaha demo in May, it was great fit ergonomically for me, I knew I would buy one once I sold at least one of my bikes to ease the cost of this bike. Initial impressions are from my 90 miles I put in on roads I'm familiar with. I like the steering, the bike transitions well for a liter bike after having ridden Trumph 675's and my 800 Tiger, suspension is decent, front felt fine, rear shock is soft for me and sharp edge bumps were felt but all in all not bad, I'll set the sag the best I can and ride it for now, don't want to listen to my wife bitch about how much I'm spending on a new bike, I tried all the ride modes out and left it in TC2 until I get a bit more familiar with the bike, I rode it in A mode most of the time, power wise it feels similar to my Daytona in delivery, just a bit more, I tried to vary the revs and stay around 6-7k rpm most of the time, I ran it up to 8 or maybe higher briefly to pass some truck traffic, the throttle had a bit more slack in it so I'll adjust that and the shifter before I ride again. The brakes were numb feeling at first but felt better after about 40 miles, I stopped and let the bike cool down and I took a couple of photos with my phone that I posted in the gallery section. I really like this bike, it is a great bike for an aging sport bike rider like me with bad knees and other aches that my Daytona seems to bring out, the sound of the bike is cool, the weight is under 500 lbs and it can tour lightly with a set of soft bags and a tail pack, the only thing I see as a nit is its thrist for fuel the dash said 29.7mpg for the tank, my calculation from the pump and odo said 26, but I don't know if the tank was completely full, so I'll check it and if I have to fill up more often so be it. I see this bike as good starting point for mods similar to my 675's, I know I'll keep it for awhile so even though you never get back what you put into them if they enhance the experience they are worth it to me. The seat wasn't bad on a short ride, I may feel differently later but for now protection in the form of rad guard and case covers are things I'll do and over the winter try to add some bits, I look to Bogie and the Stoltec bike as my inspiration, for what the bike can be. Even stock it is a good bike. I looked at all the other super nakeds and the BMW S1000XR and felt this bike offered all the performance I need on the street at a good price, plus once I rode one and how well it fit me from a comfort level, I'm satisfied with the purchase.
