I really like the look of the FZ-10. I was able to get on a demo this past weekend and really enjoyed it. My concern though is that I plan to do some short touring with it and I ftypically have a pillion. I'm thinking that most of my rides would be less than 1,000 miles over a long weekend. I know in stock condition this would be pretty painful for my passenger. I was planning to update it with the comfort seat, tracer rear mounts/pegs, saddle bags, and rear bag. Does anyone have experience with this setup? If not, what are everyone's thoughts about possibly touring with the fz-10 and a passenger? Is this even a practical possibility? Thanks!

I remember a review article talking about the payload weight of the fZ10 being only like 400 pounds or something like that. Which when you start talking about adding an extra rider and luggage, will easily get you over that weight. So this is something to be concerned with. You may need to consider bulking up the shock in the rear and weight of your bags (metal would be too heavy) andwhat you carry in them will probably need to be a serious consideration each time you ride compared to some other bikes more dedicated to touring.
I two up with my girl and she likes it and always seems comfortable but she only knows my ZX6 as another option, she's never toured on like a cruiser so it's hard for her to judge just how comfortable the FZ10 is without much experience. The FZ10 might as well be a goldwing to her coming from my sportbike. So she loves it so far.
I swear a guy on Reddit a while ago that made a custom back rest and was interested in making more for Mass production for the FZ10. That looked like it would've been more comfortable option.
I would definitely upgrade to a comfort seat as well. I got that on my to buy list.

I love my fz-10 but I would never use it to give anyone a ride longer than a few minutes. This bike is really not designed for 2 up travel.

I'm actually in the process of doing a similar setup. I have already installed the comfort seat and Tracer passenger foot peg mounts but opted to install after market foot pegs that are 2" lower than stock. I'm currently waiting on a rear rack and 50L top case with a back rest to complete my setup. So far my girlfriend is much more comfortable with the additional leg room. The back rest is all she needs to do longer rides. I think a touring setup is absolutely practical given the fact that Yamaha released a touring version of the bike. The biggest issue with touring on the FZ-10 is the gas mileage, but as long as you make frequent fuel stops you should be good (this also gives your passenger opportunity to stretch the legs). As other mentioned, be sure you don't exceed the maximum weight capacity.

Thanks for the comments so far.
I understand it will not be as comfortable as an FJR but i was expecting the FZ10 to be more tourer friendly. The accessories available for it sure make it seem as though two-up touring is part of the market they were going for. In fact I thought it was targeted at comfortable day trips and short two-up touring where the FJR would be overkill. I'm starting to wonder what the target market is.

I think this bike is a great one up tourer when set up for such, but it does not have the room or position to be a comfortable passenger tourer imo. Maybe if your passenger is tiny and you have some form of back rest and lowered rear pegs..
If I had a significant other who was seriously interested in tagging along I would have gone with an fj-09 or something.. just my opinion.

I went for a ride with my wife today. Definitely need to lower the passenger pegs for more comfort. I just received my Shad top case and the backrest so will install that next. So for the passenger foot peg, should I go with the FJ09 passenger foot peg? Or rizoma or any other options?

My wife rides on the back of my FZ10 quite often, she loves it. When we need gas she is ready to stretch out but its no problem for us at all going all day.

My wife is really not comfortable on the fz-10. She need to stretch every 30-40 minutes at least. I can't think of going too far from home really. She's an athletic shape 5'7". I bought a Givi top case to support her back but the real problem is leg room. I consider going with the FJ-09 rear bracket for the pegs but I'm not sure 40 mm more will really make a difference. If I do go that way, I'll post back here

I am searching for the FJ-09 passenger bracket and does anyone know if the FZ-10 pegs will work with the FJ-09 passenger brackets? I am also thinking of using a peg lowering kit to lower the peg for additional 1 inch.

I replaced my Sprint GT with the FZ10 since I was doing a bit less distance 2up. That being said, I feel that with hydraulic preload int he back, and full bags, it's a very capable tourer, save for the abysmal gas range. I don't mind that though because this thing is too much fun to let that rain on my parade. What concerns do you have if any?

I don't see any issues with touring at all, very comfortable fun bike ready for anything
