So my factory warranty is expiring this August. Has anyone purchased or considered an extension? Is it worth it? The pricing I received is as follows:
1 Year: $440 2 Year: $540 3 Year: $620 4 Year: $690

Yeah, I got the same letter with the same prices a couple of weeks ago. I've had many Yamahas and have never had any serious issues, they are pretty solid. To me it isn't worth it, and those prices seem steep for a motorcycle compared to a domestic auto plan (like Ford).

Might want to reach out to these folks. ALL the Yamaha FJR crowd uses them....including me! Only downside is you have to call them, no emailing! They are located down in Central Alabama and they usually have awesome prices on web purchased Yamaha motorcycles as well!! dandhcycle.com

I purchased the 4 year plan, back when I picked up the bike from the dealer. I don't really ever plan on using it because Yamaha's are very reliable but it increases the trade-in/Sale value of your bike. You can also cancel it and cash out the policy if you don't want to transfer the plan to the dealer or next owner.

I look at it like insurance. You roll the dice if you don't have it. If my headlight internally cracks again, it's more expensive than buying the 4 year plan. I amortize the expense per year and usually buy it since I keep bikes for 10 years. The wife says I spend way more money at the range in a day.

Just some food for thought, the headlight lenses on the FZ-10s seem to be cracking as per another post I've read. Someone mentioned in that post that the replacement was $500. So if something dumb like this happens to you, that clearly is a manufacturer defect, it just paid for itself.

I would do the 4 year, when I got my bike they offered me the 4 year extension for 500 and he openly said at that price he was only making a 100 bucks ...

Before I bought my FZ10 I received an email from Yamaha that offered two extra years free of charge.

Looks like a good price for genuine YES warranty.
UPDATE: Purchased the 4 year plan today (Aug 7th) and sent them my VIN. Already got a reply from them that they will take care of it and issue the warranty. This works out to 32 cents per day, considering the complexity of the FZ-10 electronically I think it is a reasonable price. I've never had any real issues with any of my Yamaha's but they get more and more complex and if something gets fried along the way I'll be covered.

I decided to go through with the purchase of the extended warranty. No reason not to, at least I am covered until August 2021. A lot can happen over four years.
