I'm fast approaching 10000km, and only found this out a few days ago, so wanted to share just in case.
Are you annoyed that your shift light is almost constantly illuminated? And that it's a bit dim to be effective?
Well do I have news for *you*!
Use your best google-fu to find a copy of the service manual. In this case, I used the MT10 manual, page 28 I believe. It shows how to: 1) adjust brightness of LCD dash display, 2) adjust flash cycle - fast, slow or off, (shift light deactivation at higher RPM), and adjust shift light brightness level.
It's all very easy, you press and hold the clock button while you turn the bike on, then the display will change. You'll then use the Clock and Reset buttons to select different modes and RPM settings.
Have a look at that service manual and give it a shot!
Cheers.

It's all in the owner's manual as well. No need to turn to the service manual for this one.

I did this pretty quickly as well after I got the old girl home. But I find even with max brightness and having the shift indicator flash instead of just turning on and staying solid it is still too small and too dim to be of real use. I suppose it would work at night but I ride daytime only. I would have liked a bigger, brighter light set at the top of the instrument cluster but we get what we get. It's not a big deal but the light could be better.

I hate shift lights.. they are a distraction. Probably going to take the display apart and disconnect the light at some point

Or just turn it off in the settings, it can either just come on, flash or not come on at all.

Good to know there is a way to do this...I figured there was, but I guess I didn't care that much...or I am just too dog gone lazy...which is probably more likely haha

I was just googeling around the internets and found this post haha, probably should have checked here first but eh. Let me know if you ever came up with anything -Tom

Let me know if you ever came up with anything -Tom I never actually looked for a bigger light as I really don't need the function, but many more sport oriented bikes have a much larger light usually mounted above the gauge cluster, often with a faceted lens to make it more visible. Yamaha just stuck the small light into the gauge, nice feature but it isn't really usable. In daylight it just isn't powerful enough to be seen to be effective.

Don't know about new mt10 but shift light on my '18 is worthless. You can set it to come on at any RPM you want. I just set mine as high as possible so it never comes on.
