So I just installed a new battery incorrectly for about a second. I blew the main fuse. I replace it and when I put the key in, the screen looks normal but it won’t start. The engine tries to turn over, the new battery is strong, but it won’t actually run. It will put once or twice every couple of seconds. But that’s all I get. I connected an engine code reader to it and I get 1 error code. P0638 Throttle Actuator control performance/range Bank 1. Does anyone know hot to fix this. I’m hoping it’s just another fuse I need to replace. I am pretty upset with myself for making such a boneheaded mistake. Was really looking forward to riding today.

Yikes. I would go through all of the fuses and see if any others tripped and replace. Inspect the wiring harness as best as you can to see if anything fried. From there would be checking voltages of the various components, and then seeing if the ECU got fried.
Usually if you're lucky, it only blows the main fuse but since you replaced that, I'm thinking you're not so lucky. Good luck.

Like RedAndBlack said - check all your other fuses as well. If they're all good remove the battery again and let it sit for a good 10 minutes with it disconnected. Reconnect and try again.

Also, sometimes the reverse polarity can damage the battery. Might be a good idea to try a new one. Batteries do weird things when theyre on low charge. I can imagine they do even weirder things when you hook them. Up backwards.

I agree - battery may have e shorted out internally. You can hook a voltmeter up while you are cranking it and see how far it drops. If the voltage is low you will get all sorts of codes because nothing gets the correct supply voltage. Or just pick up another battery and try it.. or try the old one of it still works. Don't know if you were replacing because of failure or preventative.

Thanks guys. I’m gonna work on it today. Hopefully it’s just another fuse. I’ll post what I find and hopefully I find the answer and this thread helps someone in the future

It was a fuse! Looks like a lucked out. Thanks for the help guys. I circled in the picture. Fuse box on the right. Third fuse down. It’s the electronic throttle control, which made sense considering the code I was getting from the odb2. The spare came out of the fuse box on the left. the bike was idling rough, but I cleared the code and it is running normal now. thanks for the help.

Glad to hear that it was just a simple fuse Funny story - one time I was outside a Cycle Gear and someone installed their battery backwards. We started trying to get to the fuse box with limited tools (PITA). The exact same fuses blew on his too.

So glad to have found this thread. I did exactly the same stupid thing yesterday. After blowing the 50 amp fuse and noticing I was putting red on “-“ I was so mad Yuasa switched terminal orientation. If I’d got a different battery I would’ve probably checked more. It’s common to add stubborn to stupid so I was experimenting with whether to turn the battery around (cables won’t reach), rewire positive and negative cables (very difficult) or send back the battery to Yuasa. I got on the forums to see how other people dealt with it and what do you know, they fix it by putting the battery in the right way - on its side. Duh! Now it looks like the original.
Also I blew a different 7.5 amp fuse from most other people. Mine was the ABS. All is good today. Thanks for the help.

FYI reverse terminal batteries are a thing. Sometimes there is a "-R" part number designation.
