Hello all 2018 has only 4K on the clock, never ridden in rain or dirt roads etc etc. Developing a crack on left lens as well. I just sent pics to the dealer I purchased from up here in Canada. We will see what they come back with. It was this forum that first highlighted the concern so sharing info is definitely beneficial to us all. On a side note....I went down one tooth on the rear sprocket to calm this beast down a bit. Only been out once since but I am liking the results so far albeit subtle. Front seems to come up more gradually which allows me to seemingly carry it more. Power is all there, just a little less explosive which is exactly what I was aiming for. I’ll update more as I ride more. cheers Interesting to see if your fuel consumption reduces.

That last photo doesn't seem to show any kind of impact (first I see like that), meaning they can crack from both impact and some kind of stress then. I considered the 'LaminX' protective film too, but decided against it, because of excess heat inside the housing, which can cause cracks (happens in cars too). Wonder if Madmagpul rides with high beams on all the time. If there's no impact, and lamp is not on all the time, then it'd have to be mechanical stress, meaning housing has a slightly different surface than the lens, causing a crack over time. It'd be nice to report mileage in cases of no apparent impact, to better determine what could be the culprit. Another no-no IMO is to wash the bike with cold water after being hot. At any rate, my bike's lamps are doing great so far, and I rode it several days in a row in 90+ deg weather, and caught rain too, so they apparently don't crack from rain. My bike has almost 3K miles now, and it's just over a year old (no more warranty). I don't ride on interstates almost at all, so not too worried about impact, but could happen. Hey gang, how expensive are these lamps? Can you buy just the lamp itself, and replace it? Looks like it just one screw, but could be wrong. Hopefully it's not the entire freaking assembly . I do ride with high beams on, but the bike has spent 90% percent of its almost 3 year life like this so I don't feel like heating of the lens is a culprit or that the laminiX would be an inhibiting factor to heat transfer with the large amount of convection that is occurring when the bike is in motion. With that being said, I haven't done any tests to even feel the headlight temps after a long ride so I have no basis for my argument. The bike also is just about to hit 12,000 miles. Finally, just confirmed that the only thing that can be bought to remedy this is a whole new headlight assembly and on Revzilla its selling for $515. So Yamaha engineering really screwed the pooch on this one.

Those of you who are worrying about the Lamin-x film, don't. I've been running that stuff for nearly a year and my headlights are fine

It finally got to my FZ - 14,000 miles, no chip or sign of a hit, just a horizontal crack inside. No TSB ever issued that I can find and yes, $500+ for parts. Painful

Mine just came out of the warranty when mine cracked a couple years ago. I went straight to the dealer and they were kind enough to replace them for free (probably filed them under someone else's warranty). I have had Lamin-X on them since with no problems for about 3k miles. Every time I wash the bike I check them.

Just washed mine this morning, and discovered the left glass has a million cracks. I had a protector glass on top, and no mark on it, so not a stone. Googled it and found you lot. Anyone managed to find a solution to change only the glasses somehow without replacing the whole assembly? Ridiculously expensive to replace something that works perfectly. Of course just out of warranty. Cheers

AliExpress seel just the lens covers. How they come off and these fit I don't know.
You can only get the entire assembly from Yamaha but R1 and R6 track bike conversions regularly see second hand nearly new units on eBay for about £/$150. The unit is different but the lamps are interchangeable.
No real answer over the pond here in the UK but plenty of cases. It has been a warranty repair on those bikes covered. Theories are chemicals used to clean the lamps. Stems from someone wiping there's over with IPA and cracking before their eyes.

Thats exactly what happened to me. Lowbeam was cracking due to road debris. I purchased vinyl overlays and I tried cleaning with isopropyl alcohol before installing and they both completely shattered in seconds. I installed the overlays and left them be. Im not paying for new lights, its BS.

They seem to be very delicate. I only clean mine with a microfiber rag sprayed with distilled water. I live in the desert, with lots of crap on highways, but still pristine, fortunately. I'd avoid washing the bike when it's hot. In fact, I never wash my bikes with a hose unless filthy. And with these touchy headlamps, even less likely .

Hi everyone, I found replacement lenses on Amazon for fracture of the price of the whole unit. It's 132 pound for both lenses and they fit mt10, r1m and r6 2017 onwards. Mine is 2019 with 2656 miles and literally two weeks out of warranty. I've order used R1m headlight as I need it asap and will send you some pictures about how hard is to swap it between. It looks fairly straight forward as the lens glass is hold by two screws but I'm worrying about removing glue or silicone it could be used when sealed in factory.

Oops I meant this one... It would have been really helpful if the labor had been shown from various camera angles instead of just one fixed view.
PS: He really should declutter that garage. Damn!

Someone tried to remove just the lens? They seem to be glued. I've found spare lenses at AliExpress, Yamaha in Sweden wants $1394 for the whole assembly and they don't sell parts.

Apologies for digging up an old thread. 2017 FZ-10 (purchased new in 2018). Just rolled over 11000kms and noticed both my high and low beams have developed cracks in them just recently. I've been running a 3m protection kit which included the lens covers since I got the bike 4 years ago. Long out of warranty so that kind of sucks. Found some acrylic lens covers on Amazon for like $35 CAD. No idea how one would go about replacing them though since it's a sealed unit. I haven't yet taken the time to peel the 3m off to see if the cracks are inside or not.
