I checked mine today , both headlight are cracked ..
5400 km .The left one I can feel the scratch , might be a rock 😒 and the right one I can't feel it so it might the same issues as you have . I will try to have them repair on warranty .
I will post picture tomorrow
And if you have a link where I can buy headlight protector that look good let me know . Thank !

Checked mine today... No cracks but I'll be watching. I also own a 2016 R1S which has the same lights... Hoping neither bike becomes an issue but thank you for the heads up!

Just curious how many of you guys run with high beams during the day? I have cracks too and was thinking that maybe could cause this problem since I run high beams when I ride during daylight hours. All the time, but my low beam is the one thats cracked..... I live in FL where everyone and thing is out to kill you.... dodged a gator yesterday. UPDATE******* Yamaha is covering the repair. The part is on order and surgery is scheduled for next Saturday. Our bikes are so new there isn't even a flat rate labor time for the head light replacement. Just washed my FZ10 today and noticed the high beam lens is cracked on the inside. I guess I'll be taking it to my local dealer and hoping they warranty it. Where in FL are you located? |

Had the local dealership in West Palm Beach take some pictures of the cracked lens, they will submit to Yamaha and see if it will get covered under warranty.
I really hope it is covered, the bike is 2 months old and only 2,000 miles on it. Shelling out $600 for a new headlight assembly and swapping it out will be miserable. I'll update in case anyone else has similar issues.

Hopefully Yamaha will update the lens for 2018 and cover all the 2017 that are having the problems. Must be faulty design

Thanks for the heads up! Definitely something to keep a look out on.
Yamaha should be covering this type of stuff under warranty. These cracks can and most likely are from the expanding and contracting of the lens as they are heated, and subsequently cool as we use our headlights. Definitely a manufacturer defect so definitely something that should be covered under warranty!
If you get a dealer that won't cover it, remember you can always contact Yamaha directly at their customer service line to state your case!

Glad I found this post. I washed mine today and found the low beam is cracked right through the middle. Hopefully mine will be covered as well, 2 months and 3200 miles. ![]()  |

For anyone that this has happened to, can you confirm whether or not you do a lot of wheelies? I doubt there is any correlation but curious to find a the source of the problem.

Dang what’s up with these cracking? Are they glass or plastic? Waiting on 2018 to come out before buying me one. Hope they work the problem out. That’s an expensive fix once Warranty runs out.

just had same thing happen washed prior to group ride saturtday no cracks went to wash sunday both are cracked. been paying attention to them since i seen this post. was 95 degrees out and no high beam since the pack was 100+ hard to miss us lol and still the high beam is cracked.   |
