Was there a purpose other than weight? 5 lbs won't make any difference in how the bike handles. I would have just kept the stock battery until it failed naturally and then replaced it. The Yuasa is a good battery, and if kept on a Battery Tender should be expected to last 3-5 years, or more.

Was there a purpose other than weight? Primarily weight savings, every pound helps in power-to-weight ratio. I replaced the rear fender with Yosh fender elim and there was another 2lbs savings, so it adds up. I'm only 150lbs so I'm really into the power-to-weight ratio and I plan to fully build the bike and have it dyno'd. But the main reason I did the swap was I already had the Shorai on my self, it came out of my zx-10r race bike which I don't have anymore.
